I'm too impatient to wait for it to load.
Gimme the shorthand notes of what you learned
from watching it that someone who's familiar
with atkins might not know.

I don't respect impatient people, it only took like 30 seconds to load for me then ran smoothly.

Short hand notes.
-Ketosis doesn't add anything significant to your diet except stinky breath.
-Although everyone in the medical field refuted it, no one actually did studies on high protein/fat low carb diets until the 90's, and when they did they found it led to decreased appetite, weight loss and healthy lipid levels.
-Fat doesn't suppress appetite, protein does
-Robert Atkins was 72, he slipped fell and hit his head. This is how he died, not as a result of a heart attack caused by his diet.
-When he was 71 he had a heart attack. Old people can have heart attacks.
-Eat your fibrous veggies, your body likes fiber (I dont think this was in the video, but seriously)
-The farmers invested money encouraging people to eat potatoes and not meat and trying to convince people that meat will kill them.

Discuss.

The narration was dreadful but the content was mostly ok. Satiety is a critical factor in weight loss.

The conclusion that "high protein" causes satiety is underwhelming. It's easier to see a direct relationship with "low carb" increasing satiety, which was completely undiscussed. We know that fast carb diets bypass the satiety mechanisms and leave us still hungry. The documentary ignores this entirely and argues it's all about protein consumption because fat doesn't increase satiety. As deductive reasoning goes they aren't the sharpest bowling balls in the alley.

They go on to present faux scientists arguing that high protein diets are unproven and may cause long term illness (as opposed to what? high carb? high fat? the food guide?). Again the argument is specious and the attempt at rational thought shows the speakers to be borderline stupid.

It's a fun watch if you have enough background knowledge and logical reasoning abilities to pick out the horseshit but I wouldn't send this link to someone who I wanted to understand the effects of diet on body composition unless I disliked them a fair bit.

So what you're saying is you'd send it to me?

I appreciate your detailed account, thankyou for your notes.

Your respect isnt that important to me, so i'll respond anyways :yeah

From the sounds of it, i would have quit watching before the end of it anyways.

I can easily dispute, refute, and rebut the presumptions and assumptions made in the first 3 points (with scientific studies out the whazzoo to back it up)

Again, thank you for your summary.

I felt the same way, they completely ignored carbs and any effect's they have. They didn't discuss or mention carbohydrates impact on insulin levels once. Quite a bit missing as far as covering all sides goes but I did learn a couple things.
Some fellow's did a test on 120 people, the 60 who ate "atkins" ended up with better blood lipid levels at the end.
And Robert Atkins died from a fall. Although while cutting I am following a starchy/sugary carb restricted diet, I have never read into or cared about mr. Atkins and for some reason thought he died of a heart attack.

You didn't miss much.
Point one was a single test done between some twins and I don't think the data pool was anywhere near large enough to make much of a meaningful conclusion for the masses, and even between the twins there was a slight increase in measurable energy expenditure leaning towards the "atkins" dieter. It was small though, something like 25 calories more over 24 hours.

Point two was just sort of eluded to, one of those grain of salt things to me.

Point three I feel was poorly "proven" because from the looks of it the test subjects were served different mixes of fat/protein/carbohydrates. The high fat group I believe was fed pasta with a high fat sauce, but they COMPLETELY ignored the effects of the carbohydrates in the pasta. As I was watching this part I was arguing with it in my head because if I don't eat a breakfast containing fats I'm hungry again within an hour. Even a shake with added olive oil keeps me full longer then without.

All just more pieces to add to the puzzle of information IMO, I don't take anything as gospel and this video was no exception. Still better then watching a half hour of friends though lol.

*edit*
BTW I would be kind of disheartened if my respect meant anything to you. Welcome to the internet, the biggest shit show on earth. :moon
