i'm starting work for a security guard company and HR is asking for proof of citizenship, copy of my diploma, SIN card.
I understand the SIN card but is all the rest really necessary?

they can ask for whatever they want, really.
If you lied you're history.

It's normal and they should also do a criminal record check and get you a security clearance.

what kind of site/responsibilities would you have? And as far as a citizenship card, what would be your country of origin?...and if you are doing an armored detail, the requirements for insurance purposes......these are just some of the reasons they may be asking for all that documentation....
HA! Be thankful you aren't doing something overseas.....you think what you have to do is bad...

As stated those are standards. There should be a criminal check at some point. Large places can require that you have had some type of training beforehand.

Ya that's all basic stuff... Not a lot of trouble to provide that stuff... unless you did a little creative writing on your resume? lol

Boomer,
even with all the right pedigrees, there are still alot of guys in that field because they know someone. Its almost scarey.

Pretty basic info, I've been in the security industry for 10+ years. Never been asked for citizenship but i was born here so... I've got a restricted pass for our Airport, the info they (feds) want is unreal.

lol ya..well people can lie on resume hence why they are asking for diploma...SIN number is obviously for pay roll etc if they are indeed hiring you.
Citizenship sounds like you were not born in Canada... hence why they are asking for that.
in regards to the background check , we all know or the ones in Ontario that to get and hold a security guard license or PI license you need a clean record.. although you still will require to get CIPIC check done again before you initially get hired... Hopefully you will understand why that necessary ;)

appreciate the input guys..
anybody worked for or currently working for G4S security? whats been your experience?
My first impression is that they're pretty disorganized ..they took 5 wks to transfer me from one branch to another. i applied with them because they seem to have a lot of contracts in the west end...

It really depends on the guys running that particular outfit....G4S is pretty big....they are currently doing high end stuff for ExxonMobil in the Congo but that is in no way indicative of their entire operation....
Are you doing an armed detail or just regualr security work?
