What is everyone's thought on this?
Does anyone see any issue with using frozen seasoned chicken from places such as Costco - I know it has much more sodium, other preservatives etc.
Or is it worth it to go the Fresh route? even though it cost an arm and a leg?

Offseason i'll use the frozen stuff. Precontest fresh only.
The frozen stuff is pumped full of water to plump it up and once cooked will shrink to less than half the size. If you were to measure how much cooked chicken you actually get with both it probably ends up dollar for dollar about the same if you get fresh chicken breast at no more than 3.99 a lbs. Sodium is high but that's not an issue if you're drinking enough water.

Fresh chicken never seems to go on sale here. 4kg of frozen breasts are regularily on sale for 26 - $3 a pound.

Right now I prefer fresh over frozen. At least I can tell the amount I'm going to get to eat. The frozen ones would shrink to the size of a little perogie after they were cooked. I'd have to cook up another one just to be satisfied.

Exactly, I have been doing it this way for years, they will also order you the finest cuts of steak and cut it into appropriate size if he is a good bud...

this might sound retarted but go to a huterite colony, theyll hook you up a fridge full of chicken and eggs for little or nothing.
Every 3 weeks or so No Frills has fresh chicken on sale . A family pack ( 8 breasts ) for $10. I always stock up !

Whole chicken can be had but you'll have a tough time getting 4kg of breasts from the hutterite colony.

try places other than the big chain grocery stores. I'm a regular at the butcher shop near my place and they sell me boneless chicken breast at 4.75/lb if I buy over 5lbs...
that frozen stuff tastes like industrial un-food to me.

I second No Frills as well. The last sale I saw on fresh chicken breasts was 1.77 a pound. I check all the sale flyers every week. :)

the best thing I ever did was get an oven with a rotisserie. I get 4 whole fryer chickens for about 2 bucks a pound all the time. Throw a pair on the rotisserie and I have lunch and supper for 2 days. It takes as much time to prepare 4 meals as it does to prep one, then after you eat, you pack up the remains in meal packs for easy eating. Its just easier that way and all you have to worry about is vegies.

4kg of breasts from the hutterite colony.
HAHA
ground the rest up!
I love the rotisserie stuff as well , we can get whole chickens 5-7 bucks , cut out the crap & turf it , use the rest for salads/wraps ...works well when your busy running around etc.

I got fresh chicken breasts from No Frills a few weeks back. It was so nice to have big, plump chicken breasts for a change.
