Bodybuilding and MMA are two different sports.

The first thing you'd learn if you trained is that you can't tell anything by looking, the fat guy or the goofy guy could be a skilled MF.
And after the first time you get your ass kicked by a fat guy, you'd realize that it comes down to skill.
And you'd never judge someones fighting ability again just by how they look.

I kind of get that....

I have major respect for all MMA fighters.. It takes A LOT to do what they do

What gets me is when he rubs his tummy in pride of being a fast ass

He could be so much better than that.....

Don't set that kind of example....

This is just my opinion as an spectator

You think time devoted to abs is better than getting better at his own sport? thats like asking a bodybuilder to get really strong because strongmen are strong and asking the strongman to go play basketball more because basketball players are good at basketball.

come on.

you value ascetics in a sport that has no need.

I wish Cabbage still fought.

not at all, she thinks he should be ashamed of his body and not show people who he really is. Shit kicking some super ripped dude and then rubbing your belly is being proud of what you look like, no one should shy away from that.

He went 3 rounds with JDS and still put up a solid fight, you question his conditioning? watch some heavyweight fights and watch how fast they gas with all that ripped muscle.

Thats a great point, Kimbo was a great example of a big ripped guy who gassed really easy..... Some people don't understand that every pound of muscle is another pound that needs oxygen to function.
Marius was another great example........ there were guys on here that honestly thought that Silvia wouldn't last a round.

The other reason Kimbo gassed was his mentality. He was used to going less then 3 minutes in all his fights so his body adapted to that. If you train to fight all day, your body will work at doing that. In amateur boxing, you train to fight twelve rounds, but only fight 3 in the ring. If you train to fight 3 rounds, you will never make it to the next level. That is why a lot of amateur fighters never make it to the next level. Do you think GSP, Brock Lesnar and Anderson Silva only train to fight for 5 rounds? They train longer and push themselves past their old mental limits.

you don't know what Kimbo's training style is or was therefore can't make comment on reasons why he gasses early. In general though, big muscles means the body is working harder to pump blood and oxygen than a guy with small muscles and more bodyfat.

I fought amateur, and I've trained amateurs...... Never really saw the point of training for 12 rounds if the most their gonna see is 4x 2 minute rounds.
Training for a 12 round pro fight is completely different than training for an amateur fight...... Mostly in duration and intensity.

IMHO.... Kimbo gassed because of his body composition, he gassed in every fight that went past a round.... I'm sure that with the amount of $$$ behind him, basically the whole Elite XC Promotion, that someone was telling him he had to improve his cardio. Marius is the same example..... big, cut guy with NO cardio.... Theres a reason most old school boxing trainers are against weight training.

I kind of get a kick out of you guys who think that high level pro fighters like Kimbo or Shane Carwin are not training for a hard fight.
Especially a guy like Carwin who only got paid 40k to fight Lesnar...... I'm pretty sure 40k didn't take away his hunger to win.

You know, I don't think they don't train, but when they gas after 1 round I really do ask myself: How hard did they train that they are gassing after 5 minutes??

Evander Holyfield gained muscle for a fight.Roberto Duran in his prime had a muscled physique.

Thats a great point..... Makes me wonder a lot about what was tested in the 80's......... I don't think the NFL even tested until the mid 80's....... baseball and hockey didn't test until a few years ago.

Given the number of fighters that are using right now, even with limited testing, I have to wonder who would NOT be using if there was zero chance of being caught.
Evander Holyfield has already been linked to the Balco situation...... From what I understand in Nova Scotia pro boxers are only tested if both fighters agree to it before the fight, and even then in some instances testing has been cancelled even though one fighter was in favor of it.

Roberto Duran was a great fighter, but I don't think he won a title past middleweight...... Most people would consider his prime at welter ( 145 ) or maybe middle (160)..... muscled yes, but by no means a big guy.
