Id like to see what people consider to be the best exercise for adding mass on the deltoids. Ive experimented with all three style and use all three periodically to keep the body guessing. Whats your favorite and if you like you can explain why.

Picked Smith OH Press.

If I could find a decent military press setup (usually bar is so far behind my head I can't lift it off) then I would have picked that. Back when I was younger and trained at the Y we had an awesome military press. I miss the Y I had when I first started training - great guys and very hardcore :(

Seated military DBs for me, and of course side delt flyes cant be left out of the mix....Barbells if i do military to the rear kills my neck and traps, even when i only touch the top of my back of my head....
I find these effective...

I voted seated dumbell since I've rarely ever done the other two. Although, bench press, incline dumbells, etc all have an impact as well on my delts.

I voted for seated barbell press, i'm able to push more weight on it then dumbells, and I have the mentality that size = strength

Interesting input from all you guys thus far. Ill explain my experiences. In the offseason i find myself going back to a lot of barbell exercises so more often than not I train side delts, rear delts, then front delts last (due to the fact my front delts are much better than my sides a rear, i train the lagging parts first as a prioritization and so i have peak amount of energy and endurance) but usually as a last exercise lately ive been using decent poundages on the BB military press. I find it hits the muscles differnt than the DB OH press and it causes more mass gains for me as the DB presses i do are more of a mass exercise but a shaping exercise as well....Maybe i just love the BB military press because im a junkie for old BB compound movements in the offseason. Makes me feel like ronnie and branch...LOL :bch

i like seated dumbell.....or standing barbell, using legs to boost it up for the last few reps if needed.

i actually try to change it up every workout if possible...Hammer strenght makes a decent Military press

I hate when ppl say you dont need to challenge yourself with heavier weights. If you are doing textbook form and you are getting 15+ reps or w.e u must increase the weight. When i go up x amount of weight on a given exericise and form remains perfect, i have usually gained added mass to support those new higher poundages. You dont see a 300lb BB doing 30s for DB press. The size of the muscle fiber has a correlation with the strength it can output if im not mistaken from my human performance class...Not size=strength but size and stength are parallels.

Thats how my gyms press setup is. It's so far back it's almost impossible to unrack the bar yourself without a spotter. Kind of annoying sometimes lol

Within oneself, if you get stronger, you typically get bigger, BUT not always, and size doesnt always equal strength...I was an armwrestling champ, and ill tell ya, some of my strongest opponents werent huge.....Some strong dudes arent huge....But if you, yourself are getting stronger, typically you are growing soon after.....Tendons and how they attach and the mechanical advantage they offer from the former has as much, if not more of a correlation to strength, rather than the size of the muscle fibers....

I know it doesn't work for 98% of the people because of flexibility issues but my favorite mass builder is upright rows. Off season 225lbs upright rows makes me swole. lol

I dont even do any shoulder pressing and shoulders are my strong point. I focus mainly on side lateral and rear laterals. If I do press, its at the end of my workout and higher reps.

As a side note, because of a shoulder injury I cannot do heavy pressing. If I could would it make much of a difference? Who knows....maybe, maybe not.

Ok.. that's a WEEE BIT heavier than I can do... but I have been on an INSANE "lets try to give you sone shoulders by nationals" training regime, and it seems I have uprights like 3X a week and I can TOTALLY see a difference...
(I also have pushpress 3X a week... so I'd have to vote for them too.. we dont even have a smith machine at Elite!)

Any upright row heavy enough to work makes my tendons cry.

+3
Probably because of this I can press more with db's so I chose them.
I'm one of the weird few who can do upright rows so I would have to put them up there too. I didn't realize this inflexibility was such a wide spread thing I just thought it was weird that everyone I ever worked out with couldn't do them, or they hurt to do.
I definitely can't do them with 225 though you ****ing beast.

I voted seated DB military press because I can lift higher and I have a better stretch at the botton and I finf that worked more my delts to put some mass!^^

But upright row worked really well for me to havewider shoulder because I can lift more than DB lateral for the medial head!^^

I like Barbell Military Press the best, but I haven't found a bench I like since I moved from Kingston, all the ones i've used since then put the bar too far back

DB shoulder press was my vote, It's the only one I do on that list.
I have pretty good delts ;>) (for a girly) and I think it's mainly due to heavy deadlifts with a serious lock out at the top.

you have good delts for any gender. Seriously, there wasn't a guy in the gym this morning aside from me that could out deadlift you. Actually, with my bad back I think you got me there too...

I Started with Rear delts using an incline on a Bench, Dumbell Side Laterals, Barbell Laterals hitting the front delts and then finish with the Barbell Military Press. I haven't lifted in a while but if I had to pick just one it would be Seated Military Press..
