Another trip to Home Depot and $20 later I'm in business. A 6" - 1 7/8" Fence post and a 1 1/2" rubber addapter cut in half.
I'm not entirely convinced it's rugged enough for deadlifting but for learning clean and press with an axle I figure it will be just fine.

... Just stuck 130 on the bar. Definitely feel heavier than lifting with an Olympic bar. I can double overhand at this weight and diameter so this should be fun until it gets to the point where I have to learn how to continental clean.
The not spinning part is much less forgiving on technique. Seems like a fun accessory exercise to do in the grass beside the parking lot at the Y on deadlift day.

You could always go to a metal store and get a piece of seamless thickwall and get the standard sized ends welded in.

Looks good. Aslong as it gets the job done.

This will do the job for a while. 7 feet of 2" cold round is about 100 and will probably be it's replacement but this should last me till the snow flies.
