I just saw some comparisons...Jason Huh looks really good, huge hamstrings, great condition. But can't tell if he was in the first call out or if Hanshaw/Burneika/Kuclo/Mone/Allan are.

pics can be found both on musculardevelopment.com and flexonline.com.
my take: Superheavies... they gave it to the only guy deserving of the win. Alot of Big men in that class, but also a lot of ugly physiques. When you are 250-260 lbs on stage but you just don't have that 'pro' shape you are never going to get your procard, as there is always someone else who is gonna come along and surpass you. Burnika, and Handshaw are good examples of this. As big as impressive as Robert Burneika looks in the gym, when he puts on posing trunks there are obvious structural flaws with his physique... ie his legs don't match his upper body, very side in the midsection, and shapes are not visually appealing... looks great in a tanktop though, or firing an automatic ak-47 lol
Dusty Hanshaw.. another good example... he should just quit. hes not wide enough in the clavicals, wayyyyy to blocky in the waste, which makes him look like he has little legs (which really isn't the case) but its all structural... and there will always be somebody up and comming or a few up and comming to keep him from top placings.
Keith Williams: (second place) meh! big guy...call him the best of the big men but shape wise...for his size he's definitely NOT nor does he have the potential for someone like ED NUN.
Brian Yersky... you should see the improvements this guy has made in his physique since NorthAmericans 2007!!! this is a testimony to what hard work and hard dieting will do. The guy definitely doesn't have a physique that'll take the show, but he brought good symetry, and conditioning and was able to surprise a lot of people with his placing.;
Jason Huh: What can you say! the guy definitely has a freaky set of legs. I don't like his big ass from the back, then narrow waste with higher lat attatchments... but he definitely has a thick back... looks like another Ben Pakulsky... only a little better shaped. I don't think he has the genetics, shape wize though to be top 5 at the olympia.. his shapes are just a tad bit off, compared with say a phil heath or a Role Winklar... e.t.c.
Heavy Weights:
1. Vladimir Sizov --testimony to what hard work does!! it pays off.. the guy beat two other guys that had the ability and should have beat him... but he worked his ass off in the gym over the past year, and came in dialed and dry... also doing the splits, a few flips and inverts from his gymnastic days certainly must have paid off.
2. Jonathan Delarosa ... very nice shapes but inferior I believe to Fred, if Fred was in simmilar condition.
3. Fred Smalls ... I can't believe, I can't fathom, there must be an explaination for this, how someone with this much potential, and this good of a physique shape, symetry and size wize would/ could allow himself to show up so out of condition!!! If he would have showed up in shape he very easily would have had one of the procards in my view.... maybe he is trying to peak for the Nationals or the North Americans for all I know.
Light Heavyweight:
Al Auguste ... could have been in better condition, but his combination of shape, symetry, and size were really just unbeatable... hes like a minny flex wheeler/ ronnie coleman in the makeing.

Kuclo or Hugh in the Supers from the pics I seen of weigh-ins this morning.
Kuclo looked hard in the photos and vid prior to Friday, but looked smooth on stage. The guys huge, has lots of muscle in the right places, but also is very thick-boned, which takes away from his size. I also notice him to be too narrow in the clavicals...he looks like he is 'hunched in' for a lot of his pozes.

i AGREE, Kuclo never has dialed it in properly. The funny thing with him, for me anyways, is he does not look as heavy as he is onstage for some reason. He doesnt look like hes over 250 at all.
Huh looks great, just needs to dial in the lower back and hams/glutes to compete in the pros and he will be a decent pro once he does that and brings up his back. Already has a set of the best wheel in the pros for sure.
Yesrky was a disappointment. He has great shape, classic lines, just needs thickness. But his conditioning looked bad to me. His skin on his stomach and lower abs looked odd to me, like something youd see on an older BBer that had a gut for years before.
That Vladimir guy was awesome and hell do well in the 202's thats a great class because ALL the guys are peeled in that class. So mnay good 202's in the pros now...cant wait to see how Feroce does here soon.

yup, i agree 100 percent with that..... hmm a lot of these guys are guys Im gonna have to compete against when i go to northa americans... i have a decision to make... shw, or hw? im thinking probably hw, as even though i am very small boned, i don't want to go up against guys in the 250 - 260 range..
thats of course if i don't win a procard in two weeks :)! who knows?

Dusty is a BIG mofo and a very humble man too! He knows his flaws and hes doing the best with what hes got, all he can do is improve from here. Top 5 at the highest caliber in the NPC is no joke. He has my full respect and Im sure if he keeps plugging a pro card could happen. The USA's is a higher caliber show than the NA's IMHO too.

agreed,
Dusty didnt bring the same package this weekend as he did to the Junior Nationals where he won the SHW class. He looked much better there. But still has a lot of potential for someone to say he should "just quit" is ridiculous. Im looking forward to Nationals to see how the "expert" does.

Shit storms are fun. Yes Dusty is a top amateur. Yes he has done it in a very short time and he is someone it's very easy to cheer for. I know I do.
BUT he's 265 on stage. He's a superheavyweight fully developed. Yet with the waist he has he needs significantly more quad sweep and significantly bigger shoulders to look like a champion. How does he do it? His waist isn't going to get smaller so 280 stage weight with the same conditioning with tons of work on the legs and side delts?
Does the insulin/gh + aas required to get him that big destroy the physique he does have and leave him with a gut like Dennis James?
I'm not an expert and Hanshaw may have exactly what it takes to get the most out of his structure but it's not going to be easy. The muscle isn't laying down naturally in the right places to make him look better.
Will he win a pro card. I think so. Will he develop into a top pro. It's going to be tough.

that I would have no problem doing bro. In fact, I would have no problem going up against most of those guys. its just a matter of time untill i put enough size on in the arms and frankly, none of those bulky guys in shw then can hold a candle to me. You see I posess a frame that you can build a quality pro physique on. They don't.

you really have no clue do you? The guy looked way better at the usa's. From what I saw he brought the best conditioning the shw class had to offer, and he still barely made the finals. He got beat at the Jr NATIONALS by someone who couldn't even make the finals in LHW at the USA'S...
As I said before. Big guy, but lacks the superstructure to be great. The only way he'll ever turn pro, is because somebody else didn't show up.

Denis James started off with a very aesthetically appealing package, much like a Melvin Anthony. He just has steadily grown (to the point I think he's overdone it) but ... someone like Handshaw starting off with the skeletal package he has, yah he's got great genetics for growing muscle, just too bad it's not pretty muscle, and when it comes down to it, its like a girl in the bar... You can have the biggest, nicest tits, but if you have no hips and no ass.. the guys are gonna smile at you, but you ain't gonna catch anything good. Same with Dusty... His wide waste offsets his legs, it makes his upperbody look to narrow, and legs too small.

oh and weight means absolutely nothing on stage!!! Its all about the illusion... I would rather step on stage at my 235 and a 32 inch waist then Dusts 265 and his 37ish waist? Funny thing is, I am just as wide if not wider than him up top. Like I said, I would love to see him at the north americans.

Prisoner, great name by the way, did you do time?
You have been very critical of Canada's top Bodybuilders, inlcuding Fouad and Ben Pakulski. Both are still very young in the IFBB and both continue to improve. Both have also placed higher than pros that have been competing for years. You judge everyone and pick apart people that have done more in the sport than you may ever do.
Do you here Junior hockey players criticize NHL players with stupid comments like, "he has a strong shot but is a weak skater" No because they respect that the NHL player has already made it to the level that they dream about.
Like i said before, you should show more respect to athletes that have already made it.
And on another note, you are a nurse, and you gave yourself a dirty shot that almost ended your goal this year and then you apologized for your shitty arrogant attitude because you were down in the dumps.

In my opinion P22, you arent nearly as thick as the top guys in the NPC right now, not close. You like myself, great width and nice structure, be great once the mass is packed on, but unfortunately for us...it takes a shit load of time. And IMHO, as nice as a physique as you hold right now, you may win the aesthetics round, but just plain outmuscled in the end.
My observations on your physique--->more upper body thickness and bigger legs to be great...arms look fine IMHO but could use more thickness too as most taller guys.
Please dont take my post personally I consider you a friend, but some of your comments you seem to be getting ahead of yourself.

Thats the difference between me and you bro I don't allow myself to be trapped in the here and now...I focus on the destination, and the journey, not the starting point.... and really what are you basing these observations on??? You are basing them on how I can make my physique EVEN BETTER then it already is!!! THAT MY FRIEND IS THE VERY DEFINITION OF bodybuilding!!!! that is why we hit the gym hard and that is what makes this sport fun... Its really funny because for example a lot of pros.. get past that point, and put on too much size and ruin their physiques... IMO Ronnie Coleman looked his very best at 250 lbs and then set about completely ruining his physique over the course of the next 8 years.
I am definitely NOT ahead of myself... Bodybuilding is about time yes, but as Arnold once said, its not where you are now, its where you end up that counts the most. For me its just a matter of time and you can take that to the bank. I put on muscle every year its just a matter of time before I step on stage at 250 lbs... keep in mind it was just 2007 when I stepped on stage at nationals 20lbs lighter, and I dam well plan on stepping on stage 3 years from now another 20 lbs of solid, quality muscle heavier. I don't plan on growing my waist, just packing it on in all the right places. I'm only 5'10 btw, not that tall, just long limbed, which is fine.... gives me better ability to develope more rounded and peaked bicepts.
I am very goal orientated, and extremely competitive. I am not willing to sit back and let others take victory if there is anything I can do about it... if somebody beats me, I tell myself you beat me this year, but next year good luck! People who have a problem with that... too bad... its my life and I enjoy competing... I very rarely loose... and yes granted I choose my shows carefully... however I don't walk into a show unprepared... I don't give the judges excuses for taking away points from me. I'm in this sport because I enjoy competing, but I also enjoy winning. There is nothing like the feeling you get when all the hard work has paid off.
Some people might missunderstand and think I am aorgant, but that is not the case. I am very confident... I study my opponents extremely carefully. I analyse where their weaknesses are... what i can use to my advantage. I know my own weaknesses much moreso than anyone else would ever.. as in bodybuilding it is as much about distracting from or hiding your weakness as it is showcasing your strengths... That is the beauty of it all.. this sport is so complexed in so many different ways.
The things I have learned and continue to learn along the way, is mind blowing.
But I am also a fan of bodybuilding... just like I am a huge NFL fan... you want me to critique NFL teams? I can do that also... but would that mean that because I tell everyone that Joe Flacco sucks, and he's the reason the Baltimore Ravens have no chance in hell of winning the superbowl... that all of a sudden I am jealous of him? The intellect of some of the posters on here blows my mind.. I have no problem giving props to good players and good bodybuilders, whom I think merit it, however, I also have no problem pointing out fatal flaws of a player, and bodybuilders a like.
So when I give a critique of bodybuilders at the NPC USA's and people don't agree with my critique fine, but its funny how I can justify the reasons behind my critique, and they justify thier critisim by calling me jeolous.
Well If I'm jeolous of anybody, that's a bodybuilder recently in the NPC, here is a list: Ed Nun, Mark Alvesi, Al Auguste, Jason Joseph, Shawn Roden.. need I go on... Compare those to who I have critizised and you'll see a trend forming.... Maybe somebody on here will get a clue..
I think we all focus on the destination man, at least most of us that are successful and move forward in life and accomplish our goals. And yes my observations were on how to make your physique even better, for sure! It was not a knock on your physique and I do know that you will do that as you make consistant gains year by year. Maybe I took some of your posts out of context as in the now, but I agree down the road and you do make those gains you will accomplish what you've set out to do...and dont think I'm against you here I'll help you out in anyway I can to help you reach those goals. Im not a hater in any way.

You may do decent at the national level, maybe not....

You questioning my IQ, when you do not even know me..... The "health care professional" that gave himself a dirty injection. NICE.......
and your philosophical idea of being a prisoner...... meh!! I dont buy it, I am a prisoner to nothing, if i was i would change. sorry couldnt live like that.

Exactly! here is a pic of my progress so far... if you recall i first posted pics on cjm in 05... I have accomplished these gains all by myself, through hard work year after year. No trainers or gurus lol... except me!
If anybody thinks that all of a sudden magically i am going to stop improving, like i have been, they are sadly mistaken. Bodybuilding is a big part of my life, and the continual quest for improvement year in and year out, without sacrificing my values of staying lean and healthy at all times. There is still a lot of room on my frame for improvements... and I intend to use every last bit of it before I am done.
Interesting progression. It looks like you've still got white guy genes happening with the obliques. In a model pose, one foot slightly forward, body angled they look fantastic but you can see in 2006 where it looks like you started pushing/pulling heavy and the obliques filled out. Calves seems a little on the lean side but not crushing. Other than that it's hard to tell. At your level shows are often decided from the back. Still looking a little to smooth for the national level shows, like the north american. Quad seperation may be a challenge.
It is neat to see a 6 year progression from winning novice heavy's to regional superheavy's. Your legs look a lot better as a shw, the obliques looked better as a heavy. The price of lifting heavy ass weight. I can see where how you present could make a big difference in your placing competing against the top amateurs.

Wow.. when I said accomplishments... I meant gains... I coulld care less about titles.. especially an overall I won two years ago.. thats ancient history. I really need to stop bullshitting on these boards. This is a thread about the NPC championships. I gave my opinion from a competitior standpoint whatever...and I get personally attacked over it. So I don't like Some of the big blocky physiques, hate me for all I care.... Its funny there are lots of examples of me saying good things about bodybuilders too.. My problem is i mistook this for a forum where people could share their honest opinions on things. Obviously if I get attacked I'm gonna attack back... people wanna latch onto anything they can to bring me down.. thats obvious.. making fun of my 'prisoner' name.. juvenile.. and stupid... Well if there is one thing I have learned, I need to keep my mouth shut. so I will from now on. I'm really sorry I offended anybody on here because that was not my intention.... I let my competetive nature get the better of me, and for that i'm sorry, I'm definitely don't think I'm better then everybody else... I though the coments I made where backed by logic and good explaination.. even the neg. critiques, however i guess, only guys who have made it as pros are really aloud to make those coments.. now I see that (and be accepted) I have learned my lesson... and poof|! I am gone

Hey man you are definitely a decent guy in person. In fact after you won the Emerald Cup you were downright humble in Vancouver. So it must be the dieting, gawd, Y must be a saint to put up with you! LOL.
Seriously man you have a good eye and know what the judges are looking for. I'm just a grunt but I think I'm allowed to say that Paco Bautista is one weird looking blocky dude. But I guess because you're up there battling for a top spot you have to wrap your critiques in compliments. So next time you think about posting your opinion about Dusty Henshaw just ended with "but I'm sure he's a nice guy." Also you might just want to have two profiles.
