Best excercise you could do is "NOTHING" lol
But in all seriousness dude I pulled a muscle in my abdominal region before and it WILL hinder other bodyparts if you let it get bad enough. lay off the abs and let it heal and go from there. Light stretching only.....and I mean light. Your only going to make it worse by working it.
You wouldn't do curls with a torn bicep would you? Abs are a muscle like anything else.

I get a kick out of these "work the core" types of comments, esp from personal trainers.
Squat and deadlift 400+ every week and you'll have core strength!

arent you not supposed to squat and DL in the same week :p
do you mean ripped abs, or core strength? completely different responses are warranted depending on what you are talking about....
abs = diet
core strength = nates answer + cleans, snatches, calisthetics

no. You aren't supposed to do max effort dls every single week while also dieting.

Whenever you can squat and dead lift without pain then you can add accessory movements.
