What do you guys do for gear?

A log would be a fun addition on overhead day but I'm not exactly sure where to find a decent 10" or 12" log or reasonable fascimile.

Axle and farmer's implements seem pretty straight forward but the log has me kind of stumped and it seems like it would be a very productive lift.

find a welder in your neck of the woods and have one made.

guy out here on vancouver island, makes that same log as above. for $150
no idea what shipping would cost from here to manitoba though

Prolly best thing to do is to find a retired welder or a buddy that does some fabrication work as a hobby and have him whipp you up some SM equipment...

I can get you a pic of a simple log design I came up with a few years back... It uses one of those green drainge tubes you see lying around construction sites for its body but has a simple steal frame inside. It fits inside a rack and weighs around 50lbs. One of my training partners has since had a welder copy the design and it was cheap cheap cheap since most of the cost will be in material and 8-12" OD steal pipe is expensive.

I dunno man, Paul makes a really high quality log, and the steel alone runs him over 400 bucks, you guys must get really cheap steel in Vancouver. But steel around here has gone up a lot in the last few years even, and so have Pauls prices.

Try your local guys on the Manitoba forum:

Someone might be getting out of the sport or they'll probably give you similar advise that Mr Meat says. Sure would be cheaper than all steel and serves the purpose.

Cost me $250 from our guy on Vancouver Island though. And I haven't been able to get a hold of him for quite awhile.

Paul's price is a bit much, though I'm sure it's as solid as hell.

I have used the equipment at Canada's strongest man, and pauls is better, i have used a lot of strongman equipment while i have been training... and you will be hard pressed to find better quality gear that lasts like pauls does. and i guarantee that a log for 150 is a shit log

600 dollars for a log, 180 dollers for a sled?!?, as a welder i can honestly say this guys taking everyone for a ride, that sled could be made for about 50 bucks and the log could go for 250-300 and still make a profit from it, if you honestly belive that theres 400 dollars worth of steel there your insane, and as far as prices of steel go, prices dont change on the province you live in, its controlled by the stock exchange, price per pound is price per pound period. any welder could make you a log or sled and usualy just with some scrap material they have around the shop.

ok grader... go to your local steel shop and ask for a 37.5 inch by 60 inch 3/16 plate and get it rolled into a log....

They're not NAS competition logs but they're better then nothing and they will fit into a standard squat rack or flat/incline bench (weight is about 50lbs empty).

More then a few people have learned to clean and press a log on the larger one, its about 4years old

Also $600 for a full length competition log is a good price. A "Bigg Dogg" competition log (the ones currently used by NAS) will run you $850usd plus freight.

That's a nifty idea. Swiss bar with an abs tube around it. How does it stand up to drops?

It depends how strong the swiss bar is... Just use 45lb plates and that will take the tube out of the equation since the tube will never hit the ground. We have never broken one but the bar ends where you load the plates will get mangled over time...

Have you tried using olympic bumpers instead of plates?

I do have bumpers but they're metric and the bar is imperial plus after a few years of being dropped the bar ends got deformed and the bumpers don't fit one side of the log.

Bumpers would be a huge bonus if you have 'em...

I was thinking about his and to make a log like this bullet proof make sure the swiss bar is sturdy, specifically the pipe where you load the plates should be thick walled to prevent the deformation I speak of above.

Threads a little old but I thought I'd let people know that I've just started retailing 2 styles of logs, a steel one for $447 with free shipping to nearly anywhere in Canada (pretty much all cities, just rural and towns there's a bit extra) and a loadable wood log for $617.
