Hey All;

Just wondering on diet coke and in general diet carbonated soda drinks with caffeine and aspartame.

Since it has zero calories and caffiene I would think it would benefit those in terms to shed water. Seems to be gaining more attention and considered as a little insider trick is to use diet soda. It's a practice that seems to be gaining popularity these last few years. Diet soda is low in calories, but it has a tendency to make you go to the bathroom more often. Especially Caffeine-containing sodas like pepsi or coke.

On the flip side with carbonated drinks assumption that having this with a meal, protein and carbs, carbonated drinks would slow down the metabolic breakdown of protein and carbs & fat in the stomach prior to flowing thru bloodstream.

Your opinions on Diet coke for pre-contests?

they're fine but wouldn't want to rely on them. 95% of your fluid intake should be from water with the other coming from things like diet coke, teas, coffee, etc.

It's shit but it's shit with flavour. When you are on an extremely restricted diet it's easy to rationalize. Aspartame, sucralose, sodium cyclamate while all officially non-toxic are just as likely to turn out to be nasty poisons twenty years from now. Best practice is to simply avoid them BUT it's not going to hurt your diet.

that shit is proven to slow metabolism

I can pull up a lot more info, but the one I really wanted you to see was from U of Guelph where they showed that certain sweeteners turned to formaldahyde in your system. That isn't good.

Under extended heat yeah, but i little bit isn't going to kill you (written as i'm sipping a mixture of crystal light and diet pop mixed together)

I have read about diet sodas interfering with amino acid uptake as well as depleting chromium in the body as well.

When I diet I eliminate it totally now and with clients. But normally, like now, I will have one here and there but stick to the clear ones like Sprite.

I like diet 7up with lime extract.

However, mineral water with lime extract and stivia is not bad either if you wanna be healthier about it and enjoy carbonation like I do.

Other than that all I drink is water with lemon extract and some stivia. Freeze a bottle of that and bring it to a workout. Its a little piece of heaven during cardio or after a drop set. lol

seems like every year more studies come out showing that artificial sweeteners are poison, that being said i love diet crush. ;)

I am pretty sure that the sweet flavor can trick your body into thinking that it is getting sugar and when it doesn't receive what it is expecting metabolic processes can get out of whack. Not sure of the mechanism maybe insulin release, maybe leptin sensitivity is reduced.

I avoid artificial sweeteners other then stevia because they are poison. Quality sparkling water with a bit of lime does it for me.
