View Full Version : Daily dips; stupid or not?

Here's the plan. Every day, whenever I go to kitchen to eat, I'll knock out as many dips as I can on the counters. If my tri workouts in the gym don't suffer as a result, I'll do the dips with a backpack filled with weights and will keep increasing the weight from week to week.
So has anyone done any similar style training where you perform the same exercise throughout the day? If so, any positive results?

I suppose doing this would provide you with some more stamina for doing that particular exercise day in and day out, but if you're trying to gain mass, it's counter-productive. Your muscles need rest for growth. So in answer to your question: stupid. :)

Unless you have a functional need to do many many dips then this is really stupid in my opinion.
This will make you really good and doing kitchen counter dips and bump up your dips in general but beyond that not much else besides probably breaking your counters and over training your triceps.
If you want to grow some triceps try training them twice per week instead.

I wouldn't say it was stupid exactly. It kind of depends on how novice you currently are. As a non excerciser this and 100 rep pushups and chinups are a pretty good way to reintroduce exercise. As a novice lifter with a month or more of lifting under your belt I can't imagine it would be productive.
i used to do 2x12 pulls up every morning and gained a lot of width on my back. I was not doing it to failure.

Ideally you want to train sufficiently to make your body have to adapt then give it enough rest and nutrition to make those adaptations. Then your subsequent training session is slightly more difficult to cause further adaptation. Lather rinse repeat. Doing a little bit every day is not ideal and is not the best way to cause your body to adapt.
Something to think about is if doing dips does negatively effect your tricep workouts (which it should) than you are not allowing for proper recovery and your gains will likely stop fairly quickly. If it doesn't effect your tricep workouts than it may not be worth doing.
It may be worth doing dips 1-2x/wk but not close to a regular tricep workout. Increased training frequency is a good way to make gains more quickly but it becomes counter-productive without proper nutrition and rest.
