Specific Adaptation to Imposed Demands (SAID)

I've just started scanning through Verkhoshansky's "Special Strength Training - A Practical Manual for Coaches" and as he enumerates the types of strength it becomes pretty obvious that training for nothing imparticular is actually pretty hard to do.

How do you build a program if you don't have objectives. What kind of objective is "I want to be stronger" or "I want to be huge" ? It's simply not specific enough to be useful.

It's pretty easy to find a decent novice strength program and hopefully follow it up with a reasonable intermediate program but once you get a ways into an intermediate program it seems like youse gotz to make choices.

There's a pretty good chance I'll never develop beyond intermediate programming for strength but it's extremely cool to see how you can take training significantly beyond this.
