View Full Version : Repeating numbers appearing in daily life

I am likely to sound like I've lost a few of my mental faculties, however I wonder if anyone else notices or is perplexed or even comforted by repeating numbers that appear in their life.

Time is an obvious one for me. I very frequently look at the time and notice it is 11:11 or 2:22 or wake up and see the time is 3:33. Or I walk in the door arriving home form whatever I was doing and the time is 4:44. I realise there are many times that I look at the clock and the time is rather insignificant, and that many would say the repeating numbers are simply the times that I choose to remember. Normally I would agree, except for the daily frequency and the number of years this has occurred. it just happen not too long ago at 12:21 (that also for me is a form of repeating number that I see). The last time previous to that I looked at the clock was 10:56...I was busy swearing at my newly broken dishwasher.

There is more to this, it also occurs (and is occurring with significantly increased frequency) at the cash register. I am an old fashioned cash guy. I only leave the house with a certain amount of cash in my pocket to keep my spending tendencies to a minimum. I leave the credit and debit cards at home unless traveling. So....I enter a store to buy one item, and usually end up with several random other items, and either the total sale price or the change I receive from the particular denomination of bill that I happen to have in my pocket is a repeating number. The total my be $88.88 or my change may be $4.44. If I would have grabbed one more random item there would be no repeating number. OR...upon looking at the receipt, the purchase was made at 13:13 (24hr time).

There is more, for example I have been searching for a language tutor. No one was worked out thus far in terms of scheduling or distance. I recently happened upon a new advertisement from a person who seemed like they might fit the bill so I sent an e-mail. After sending the e-mail I happened to look at the date the ad was placed on, it was '10-July-10' just like that. I knew right away this person was going to work out, and when they replied, everything was even better than I had hoped in terms of availability, distance and profession accreditation.

Is anyone else as crazy as me?? LOL!

I used to notice that all the time as well, it lasted for about 2-3 yrs, then it justy went away........
I just basically always noticed the times...11:11 etc, they say you are supposed to make a wish when that happens...

Sounds shockingly similar to a movie that came out a few years back called Number 23. Same sort of occurences happened expect with this repeating number 23 or 2, 3 or anything adding up to 23. Its a weird phenomena that id say has a tonne to do with the conciosuness in our brain. The brain is complex and conciousness is as well. Ive experienced this a lot with waking up at night. Always 4:44. Every day of my competition this year i would wake up and see 4:44. it was kind of weird and i dont no why it happened.

couple reasons.

1. Like you said, you don't pay attention to all the times the numbers didn't come up looking "strange".
2. There are lots of "strange" numbers on the clock. For example, you could look at the clock at 3:21, or 3:33, or 3:45, (so you're odds are 1 in 20 to seeing it assuming you just know the time is after 3 but before 4. Then add to it that you are less likely to look at the clock when it is exactly 3pm or 4pm, since you probably already know its about 3pm or 4pm (ex. tv show just ended) and thus have no interest in looking at the time. Perhaps this makes the odds even much less than 1 in 20 given that you may be more likely to look at the clock between 3:20 and 3:50 (perhaps those times are when you really don't know what time it is).

So combining 1&2 together, you see that its just pure chance. For myself, I find I always see the clock at 4:20. Some would think this is a number of "significance". My interpretation is that I never remember all the times I saw 4:19 or 4:21 and the fact that I always have a curiosity of the time at about that time during the day.

As for the exact change thing...Well, if you're like me, you have a total showing up on a register far too often. So its bound to happen. The other day things added to 170.00$ even after gst and hst on groceries...But that is the only significant number i noticed in a while, so pure luck.

If all else fails, then yes...it's just a glitch in the matrix

I really love to believe that this is random...however I shall provide proof. I just arrived home from my day, logged in to read this thread specifically and noticed the posts and views as I clicked the thread....(see the a pic)
