So since competing at this point is out of the question i have decided to really switch up my training. I actually haven't trained legs since March this year..I am relying on hard and heavy cardio!. It seems to be doing the trick. Since i have switched this up i have got back to my roots of my really younger, football years and feel like an athlete again an not just a logged down bodybuilder. It feels great!...I actually went sprinting with my dogs last night and after sprinting on off over the length of 10 football fields i wasn't really out of breath...it's been yrs since i have been able to do that. And just to show you that you really don't need a tonne of weight once you get your base i took this pic of my legs this morning..remember haven't done anything for them since March

Legs are decent, you just have so much mass in upper body.Hard to compare......Hard to see in the pic also bro!!......
I am also getting into the cardio and healthier aspects for the moment.....Feels great...

hey have you tried throwing in plyometrics? Back in the day about once every 2 weeks I'd do a plyo only workout, and feel totally rejuvinated. I'm doing cardio now but only cuz my fat ass needs it bad. It does feel good though to be out moving and doing stuff that a lot of kids can't do these days.

I can understand high intensity interval training but please don't abandon bodybuilding for bosu balls, balance boards, rubber bands and plyometrics. Please. LOL :D

nice legs and good separation for a guy that didn't do his legs since march! :)

Sprint is good, look at the sprinter, not the marathoner..lol.. are legs are great, in my opinion, maybe not like a Bodybuilder, but look great!

i just find that when i do train legs hard and heavy..running and cardio become a chore. I actually coached women's football last night and had a blast doing it..some of these girls catches would put guys to shame!...it was nice to be able to sprint with them and do their drills. Oh how i miss playing!

I would LOVE to start coaching football and hockey. Something I always wanted to get into since I think I have a lot to offer guys from my own playing days AND where I can help them with their strength and conditioning as it relates to their athletic development.

I'm just not sure how to go about it here in Ottawa. Fit.. how'd you get into coaching????

And, I'm with you on the idea of getting back to being more athletic.

Yup, being all show and no go is a crime I think many bodybuilders are guilty of unfortunately.

There's a big difference between being a bodybuilder and being athletic.

Not to say bodybuilders aren't athletes but there are different goals and purposes for those involved in athletics. Bodybuilders have zero need to be conditioned to do wind sprints or partake in agility training exercises, etc.

So, I disagree with your statement.

I was asked by my ex who plays on the team to fill in for their coach who is hit and miss with showing up. Ran all the drills, the girls loved it as I pushed them and they weren't Use to it. I told them the only way to get better is push it in practice so the games are a cake walk.

I might get into London minor football coaching. Just call your local leagues they are always looking for coach staff since it's all volunteer

Nate, you're absolutely right based on everything you just wrote there and the reality of the sport as it is today.

However, based on your previous statement about getting back into athletics and assuming you are a bodybuilder I think you actually do agree with me on a personal level as a lifestyle choice for yourself. I could be wrong.

I myself am old fashioned. I believe if a person looks like their in shape they should actually be in shape. I believe if a person looks healthy they should be healthy. I believe if a person looks athletic they should be athletic and have some semblance of coordination beyond walking. I understand these things have nothing to do with standing on stage. Their just my own personal beliefs and biased opinion I suppose.

Btw, you ever see Jay Cutler throw a punch? Its shockingly sad (zero power and zero coordination) but has nothing to do with being Mr Olympia now does it? lol I'm still a fan of his though and admire his accomplishments in the sport of bodybuilding. Its just not for me to be that one dimensional and probably why I'll never be great at any one thing and I'm OK with that.

I've been a bodybuilder for the past 12 year or so. My background is in athletics - football, hockey and rugby. Played both football and rugger at the University and Junior B for hockey.

I started training with weights at 14 simply to get stronger and faster for sports. Once I got injured I shifted into more bodybuilding style training as I loved to train. I'm getting older now and sort of falling out of favour with bodybuilding mainly due to injuries that linger on and on and on even with rehab, etc so am finding myself wanting to get back to my athletic roots more. I play hockey once a week (looking to bump that to 4-6 times a week this winter) and I even at 290lbs I can still move pretty good on the ice and am faster than some guys 100lbs less than me.

My true passion is playing sports so I am starting to work towards getting myself in better condition to start playing as much as I can again while continuing to train (just not as hardcore as I used to be) 4-5 days a week.

But bodybuilding is different goals/purpose. They don't need to be able to run for 15-30 mins and in doing so will actually hinder them than help them in their competitive endeavours.
