I enjoy this. The only part that concerns me is the premise that evolution stopped with paleolithic man. The ability to digest dairy effectively is a relatively new genetic trait and is extemely common in us northern euros, ala white folk.

It is one of several relatively modern human genetic adaptions. 75% of adult humans are lactose intolerant to some extent BUT ONLY 5% of Northern Eruopeans are lactose intolerant.

Being as I'm one of the 95% of northern euros who aren't lactose intolerant dairy is my very good friend.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lactose_intolerance

Lactose intolerance is the inability to metabolize lactose, because of a lack of the required enzyme lactase in the digestive system. It is estimated that 75% of adults worldwide show some decrease in lactase activity during adulthood. The frequency of decreased lactase activity ranges from as little as 5% in northern Europe, up to 71% for Sicily, to more than 90% in some African and Asian countries.

My thoughts on the paleo diet are that carbs are not low enough to be in ketosis, because you can eat fruit and high GI vegetables, but there is no direct carb sources, so you are borderline keto the whole time which can make many feel lethargic and like shit.

I really don't think paleo = keto at all.
you can eat paleo zone or paleo keto or paleo carb cycle for that matter.

I'm don't believe Cordain presupposes a fixed set of macro ratios within the construct of paleo eating.

Paleo zone seems to be a very popular approach in the crossfit crowd.
Rob Wolff and company seem to lean toward the Paleo-keto approach you aren't so fond of.

I agree with T on this. The Paleo is not a low carb diet . You eat as much fruit, veg and nuts as you want. You don't eat grains and legumes.

I like the diet and do well on it. When I crave anything I eat lots of fruit.

However I do think it's more of the processed crap and fast / junk foods that cause the bad health disease rather than the breads , pasta and grains , but that's just my opinion.

So do you think it is a good idea to eat a ton of fruit on a diet?? to many high GI carbs??

A lot better than eating a ton of rice, pasta and breads!

To much of anything is bad for you. I don't think 6 pieces ( or a serving with each meal )of fruit and Veg is going to hurt you. Lots of people don't eat 1/2 that in a day and have digestive issues. Fruits and Veg are high in fiber which is the main reason they say they help prevent certain types of disease’s .

Like I said I personally don't think that grains are the major cause of these disease’s I think it's all the junk / fast / processed foods that are the problem , but then again if you have issue's with gluten your not going to want to eat them.

To me being regular is the key to having less issue's

I've pretty much eaten this way for a long time, I am sensitive to both dairy and gluten. Dairy bloating me, and gluten giving me a runny nose and a hung over feeling the next day.

I have no problems with energy for training, I do SEALfit training, which is some of the most intense training that can be done and I keep up fine with my team.

I get plenty of fiber and is hardly low carb, about 20-30% of my intake is carbs so it is not a ketogenic diet.

If you do a Paleo-Zone type of diet as an athlete despite the nits that can be picked it would be pretty hard to do better.

I can bitch about Paleo's food selections but if I follow the recommendations I'll be eating good foods. I can bitch about the pseudo science, marketing bs of the zone but if I organize my macros roughly as recommended it will give me adequate energy and a good body composition. As far as generic eating templates go these are generally good ones with a wide range of food choices.

Could you do better? Maybe, with a lot of self experimentation and study. A lot better? Nope.

I don't believe that in terms of diet there is a one answer for everybody.

As a starting point the Paleo diet is great.

I was raised eating rice and beans in a daily basis and having gluten and dairy as breakfast for almost 30 years and as far as I know I have no problems with that.

Next week I will see the results of my food intolerance test and I believe that that is the only way for you to find what works individually.

As said before I don't believe that grains/legumes and dairy are the source of all dietary evil but the processing of food is.

I agree with the processing of food part, i try and keep my food as wild and raw as possible.
