I do know what you mean... but you can't generalize! I'm not skinny fat, thanks to a strict 5-6 day a week workout schedule!... And I am always careful to get all my protein, I still eat seafood!!

Why the prejudice against vegetarians??
so if you eat seefood, you are not a vegetarian, you are a Pescetarian.

Yes, but most people don't know that term... so if I say vegetarian always safe people with get it. I also don't eat it everyday, maybe once a week.... No prejudice then?

I am tight on time these days so can't really do some searching. When I have the time, I'll try to bring some stuff over for vegetarians as it seems to have a solid base group.
I would start on trying to find any diets/recipes from Bill Pearl (famous bodybuilder of the 60's/70's that was vegetarian). As I said, when I have some time, I'll bring some stuff over here but it will be in the Recipe section ;)

Note to original poster that your location may also have it labeled as TVP (vegetable/soy) but it's exactly the same stuff.

I know TSP... I use it for spaghetti sauces and things that would normally use ground meat. But eggs whites?? Do you need to soak the TSP first?? And do you just cook like you normally would the egg whites??

Had this in a raw vegan restaurant and loved it... I made it at home last night and it came out great!!!
Raw Vegan Pad Thai
2 Zucchini
1 Small Diacon Radish
1/2 Brocolli
1/2 cup - 1 cup sprouted mung beans
2 tbsp of natural just peanuts butter
1 tbsp Bragg (or soy sauce)
1 tbsp Cider Vinegar
1/2 - 1 tsp red chili pepper
2 cloves garlic
1-2 inch piece of ginger
1/4 cup coriander (cilantro)
3-4 tbsp water
First julienne style or spiral peel your zucchini sprinkle with salt (this is to soften it) and set aside while you prepare the rest.
Do the same to the diacon radish except no salt, add the finely chopped broccoli, sprouted mung beans and 1/2 the coriander (cilantro).
Put the remaining ingredients in a magic bullet, or food processor)... blend until smooth.
Once you are ready to put it all together rinse the zucchini a few times squeezing it in between rinses to get out all the salt.
Then toss all ingredients into a bowl, toss and enjoy!!!

I was a fishaterian!, then a chicken and fish- aterian, now im a meatatarian! I finally am able to hold some muscle!
We never get "resipe's" on my diet plan... just food we have to eat. One of my foods before I started eating meat was chick peas, the closest thing I have to a recipe is this...
take chick peas (dried not canned) cook em up according to directions... sprinkle with garlic salt, lemon juice, curry powder, cumin and chili pepper or any spices you like... toss... lay on flat baking shear, cook for about 15 mins at about 350... crunchy spicey snack!

Not true... Fat/thin comes from being inactive and starveing yourself. My wife has been a vegatarian for 15+ years now and she's never been healthier. She is never sick and works out regularly.
You judge, think she's skinny fat at 48? *points to Avi*

half agree... its diet too.. alot of vegatarians are on 90% carbs and forget about protein.. they usually are the ones who are skinny-fat.

It is darned hard to be a vegan and consume 1.5 grams of complete protein per pound of body weight per day.
If you are willing to eat eggs/milk/cheese then it's not so tough but otherwise it's pretty darn tough no matter how much soy, and rice and beans you eat.
It gets even tougher if you have issues with digesting gluten or legumes.
If your body handles carbs well and you are extremely diligent about getting adequate protein it can be done but it certainly doesn't work for me.

You'd be bigger if you would be eating meat. and meat tastes good.
My mom forced this vegetarian stuff on me when I was younger...stupid IMO.
Just to clarify... Iam not saying that being vegetarian is stupid.. each its own -tons of pro and cons..
I am more upset about the fact that this was forced upon on me at a young age when I was developing.

Thanks... thats great! I always make sure I get lots of protein as well!! Protein shakes are always a great way to add to your diet!! I am only 1 year vegetarian, so always welcome info to help. I do still eat fish once a week, although that is getting difficult these days as well. Do you have soy product daily as a protien choice? That seems like too much Soy products!

I myself have begun to eat less red meat as I am getting older. Chicken and fish are the staple of my protein intake. Now and then I do eat a good steak but a lot less frequent than I used to.
I find nothing wrong with being a vegetarian. As I stated, look at Bill Pearl. He managed a great body without eating meat for his time. What I'd be interested to see is what a bodybuilder diet would look like without meat. The choices of vegetables used, how to choose combination's to achieve a complete protein. Might even be good for a meat eating bodybuilder to incorporate some of those meals into their diet to reduce the quantity of meat ingested.
Bill Pearl (who last competed in 1971 at Mr. Universe who beat Frank Zane, Reg Park and Sergio Oliva. He was a vegetarian then). Not sure when the pics below were taken though as he started competing in the early 50's. Beat Sean Connery (the actor) in his first Mr. Universe showing.

I dont like eggs ( i dont care if its in food like cake or somthing but just to cooke some up i dotn like)
but GOD i love my cheese ad whey and THE BEST think i like to add to food is gluten, IT tastes soo good.
I east ALOT of nuts and beans like soy ect. but if it wasnt for help of whey protien it would be alot harder. thow hemp protein could make up for it, it is fking nasty to take in 50g mixed with water 3-4X a day lol but would do it if i needed .

I have never eatin better since i stopped eating meat, I will note i DO take fish oil 2-4g ed but thats about the only animal thing next to whey.
I am gaining the lbs steadly year after year (about-10lb per year NOT counting water on cycle) so im happy with gains.
and for me it was the other way around meat was forced on me by my family, you know i acually beleaved all the animals we ate died from natty causes like old age or sick, up untill like around 10 or 12yrs old! because even from a very young age i didnt want it.
Im portugues so in my culture there ALOT of fish and meat involved, im the only one in my fam that i know of that DONT eat meat.
to each his own but i think its disgusting but if i where stranded on some island and was donna die, id eat the persone next to me.
point is we dont need to so why do we still do it?

ohh god no , for soy it might make up like 10-15% of my protien intake so like what maybe 4% total daily.
id say 60% is from whey protein shakes (and to those that say too many shaked its bullshit amino acids are amino acids regardless if the source)
if anyhting it will absorbe faster so have it with food or a casien powder if you need slower digestion.
the rest comes from nuts and beans.
whit is what i do alsmost daily as meal replacment (its a snack thow) (when bulking ill add cream or extra peanutbutter or use milk in place of water to fill blender)
makes 2 servings:
1-2Bananas
50g oat meal
100g whey protein powder
4 tbs peanutbutter
handfull frozen berrys
fill with water and blend er up.
I mean JUST the peanutbutter is 400cals with alotta good fats.
greats for putting on lbs.
if your tryign not to goo too crazy on the cals then lower to 1-2tbs but i would deff add it int here for the fats.
Also if your not gonan eat meat i highly rec addtign thses supps to your diet if not already there:
1-2g taurine ED (google it its an important amino and mostly found in meats but your body can make it but I think suppign with it is very good)
B-12 500mcg or more (DEFF a must with not eating meat)
whey protein 30g 2-3X a day mixed with water.
multi vitamin/min
------------------------
whole wheat's like pastas, bread ect.
add olive oil to EVERYTHNG you can.
on the run right now will add more later

Interesting, if you guys could elaborate on the bean combos (I refuse to eat soy, it's too processed) and other vegies, I'd like to add variety to my current diet. I am finding like MP I don't eat as much store bought red meat, and on the road wild game is pricey, although a great treat every now and then.
