My school where I did my undergrad had a 3 story weight room for just varsity athletes. A total of 15 squat racks and 20 powerlifting platforms, dumbells up to 200 and guess what....no gay ab balls. They deffinately make it a priority in the NCAA. I miss it :(

Awesome gym. I think there is a wet spot on my underwear now after viewing those pics.
They must like Olympic lifting.
Check this out - the Texas Longhorns have their own 20,000 square foot facility just for the football team. I want to see pictures:
Feldman: Top 10 college football weight room facilities
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
http://insider.espn.go.com/ncf/blog?name=feldman_b ruce&id=5318369
What's the best way to gauge top weight rooms around the country? I ended up consulting a group of NFL scouts, college administrators (who had toured many facilities as they tried to get ideas for their own upgrades) and some well-traveled coaches for today's top 10 list.
1. Texas Longhorns:
What JerryWorld is to head-turning stadiums, that's what the Al-Rashid Strength Complex has been to college weight rooms. The room, named for Saudi Arabia native and UT graduate Dr. Nasser I. Al-Rashid, is 20,000 square feet and also includes a 70-yard turf straight-away for timing and conditioning. More than half of the people I spoke to for this began their list with Texas.
2. LSU Tigers:
The Tigers program has quite a legacy going back over 50 years to the days of pioneering strength coach Alvin Roy. Unlike a lot of other big-time programs, the Tigers facility, aka "The Complex," is just for football only. One source praised it for the graphics and coloring of the complex, talking about the great energy of the facility. Another pointed out that the set-up is smart in that it also opens up to their indoor facility as well.
3. Nebraska Cornhuskers:
One of the sources I spoke to said he suspects if you spoke to 100 people who had toured the top weight rooms, most would put Nebraska's at No. 1, ticking off a series of reasons for its prime spot: Two levels. Spacious. Great equipment. Great flow, from the cardio are to the Olympic area. The set-up is only going to get better with former NU star Ndumukong Suh's $2 million donation to the program.
4. Alabama Crimson Tide:
An NFL scout who canvasses the SEC named Alabama as the best weight room he's seen. Like Texas and a few others, the Tide facility goes about 20,000-square feet. For more on the Tide's training program, check out this Matt Siracusa story from earlier this month.
5. Oklahoma Sooners:
The Sooners facility was one of the most impressive around when I visited it a few years back, but I'm told it has really been upgraded since former OU star Roy Williams donated to his alma mater for a football-only training space.
6. Florida Gators:
Renovated in 2008, the Gators' 25,000-square foot complex is as big as any. It also includes a 50-yard turf area.
7. Notre Dame Fighting Irish:
The entire Notre Dame campus is just impressive, and it's football hub -- the Gug -- is no different. Check out Pat Forde's piece on their program and strength coach from earlier in the week.
8. Oregon Ducks:
"With all of the effort this school puts on its uniforms, you don't think they wouldn't do everything possible to be state-of-the-art in facilities," said one source, raved about the Ducks' training environment. And, earlier this spring the state approved a plan to step things up even more.
9. Kansas Jayhawks:
Hearing about the Jayhawks set-up surprised me. KU spent $8 million on the Anderson Family Strength and Conditioning Center and the reviews are very favorable. "The size, flooring, flow of the place is just very, very nice," said a source. "It is impressive."

Thats insane, he hasnt even played a down in the NFL (he was drafted this year) I cant believe how much these guys get in bonuses....
^ That's funny.
I checked out their gym as it is:

Very nice, but I don't get those "transformer" machines. They seem like overpriced squat racks.

Awesome!
Yeah the states are insane. We invest our money in academics. They invest theirs in sports.
I've been to highschools that had old ratty textbooks but a full football field with astro turf and nightlighting.
Thats the difference between canada and the states. Totally different culture.
Football and other sports are big business down there.

Hmmm don't think so Nate there's a
tibia raise
seated calf
standing calf/squat machine
hyperextension bench
reg bench with leg ext/curl attachment & preacher attachment
adjustable bench
Home-made squat/bench rack
Commercial grade ab machine (scissor type)
Ab roller
T-Bar Row
Powerrack w/cables
What is a glute/ham raise anyway?
If its there Tell me how to use it! My HAMS need extra work! LOL

Hmmmm....built it up starting about 8 yrs ago when I was single and sold a house and had cash in the bank & no-where to train. Seems to me invested somewhere over $20k but allowed friends to use it for $20/mth plus $2 for 20 min tanning for about 4 years which paid me back for more than 1/2 of it. But too many gym-goers are meatheads and their mothers never taught them how to respect other's property put their weights away, not track mud through the place or clean up their sweat puddles oh man etc etc. Finally I moved, put the gym in my basement & now have a young family & just me & my wife uses it.
I would NEVER get involved in the gym business. Don;t know how any of them make money.............actually I do know, Newbody's for example they watch every goddamn penny they spend and have to put up with meatheads LOL NOT FOR ME.
But I love my gym, to date its the only thing I own that the damn bank doesn't own a part of
Cool. I bet it's a good investment in the long run.
I think the way they make money is off the slackers. People pay for a year, and only go for a month, then the gym keeps deducting $40/month.

thats awesome. I am impressed you were able to stay 100% motivated in your situation. I'll have to admit, I had the same plan, but it failed miserably. I had invested a good 9k in my home gym (everything used). And I basically had the same thing going on (minus the tanning / sauna stuff). After 6 months, it all got sold and I joined the goodlife. We kept the cardio, and profitted from selling the rest :)
PS: lol at the diaper boxes in the tanning bed!

I know. Awhile ago I thought maybe I needed to be around people to get a better psyche-on so I went to Nubody's a few times. Found it TOO CLEAN & TOO COMMERCIAL. I like my basement - crank the Cerwin Vega's up, wear whatever you want, drop the weights, no line-ups, no meat-heads, no one interrupting you breaking your focus. It has been a good investment
