But seriously, is it worth it to do compound movements like that with such light weight. And for cardio, it just seems too intense that it would interfere with one`s recovery.

I have done these on conditioning days as 6 exercises of 6 sets, with the catch that everytime you have you put down the bar you get a 10 burpee penalty at the end. They are great for conditining, similar feeling afterwords as a tabata set.
I usually only do it with a 25 plate on each side, too much weight really kills you fast. For an extra challenge I have done it with fat grips as well, your forearms are dying afterwords.

Yes it is good to do every once in awhile . GPP is what some people call it and it helps with recovery.
Other things like sled or prowler dragging Kicke the shit out of you and will tell you just how good your conditioning is.

sled dragging sounds much more fun and cool. But still my instincts are not convinced that all this helps with recovery. I can see it being draining and exhausting, yet fun. The strongman stuff like hitting a tire with a hammer and stuff seems very cool as well.
But like you said, once in a while...

So if you (or I in this case) let my cardio go for a complete shit and only do short intense weight lifting then my conditioning will improve how?
Athletes spend 3 or 4 sessions a week in season in sport practice. I on the other hand don't have a sport. I'm easily winded and I'd probably tear a hamstring if I tried to sprint.
I have observed that athletes have better NOT WORSE recovery from the their weight lifting sessions (bastards). I have also observed that athletes appear to be able to handle higher workloads in the gym (double bastards).
There are 2 possibilities that I can deduce from my observation.
1) People that are athletes are genetically superior to me.
OR
2) People that engage in the practice of sport have better recovery and work capacity.
Much of the argument for sled dragging and sprints for conditioning is a complete lack of eccentric work.
The olympic lifts done as complexes for 3 minute rounds have similar characteristics and spread the work around a little differently.
I'm thinking something like...
Squat Day --- Drag a tire for repetitions and puke
Deadlift Day --- 40 yard sprints till the lungs bleed
In between Day --- 3-5 3 minute rounds of Barbell complexes till the pee runs down my leg.

well, I for one don`t care about conditioning, lol. It would be for the fun of it. The vid shown dosen`t look fun. Like I said, the strongman stuff does.
But here`s my question. What athlete has the shape and look of a bodybuiler? Not many come to mind and the one`s who do, it`s simply because of genetics. Complete freaks... Therefore I ask myself why do any of that stuff if it won`t make me look better naked?
Other than conditoning, what`s the point?
The better your conditioning the better your life expectancy will be.
If your just going for looks and don't care about how your lungs or heart hold up then all the power to you. Good luck :)

LOL! I don`t plan on living that old... But I get what you`re saying here, and wouldn`t recommend against it. Just not for me, that`s all.
I have a hard time doing them also. I would rather have a round of golf and call that my GPP :)

If you walked around with an x vest and ankle weights while pushing the golf cart, couldn`t that count as GPP?

I'd rather lie on the couch like a cat with occasional breaks to eat and go to the bathroom :)
I know it's a little retarded but the barbell complexes do look fun to me. Tire flipping looks like more fun but I don't have one handy and my wife would definitely have a melt down if I left a tractor tire in the front yard.

Do these count as complexes?

I don't think so. It's an arm workout, but theres some darn cool techniques in there. My biceps tendons hurt just watching this.
Fat Bar, Static holds , Explosive Negatives, Partials, Plyometrics.
I think the techniques are cool. The challenge I've always had is how to work them into a progressive lifting program effectively. I've already pretty much maxed my arm work with rows and chinning. Special Arm work like this would definitely put me into a bad place with my tendons really quick.
BUT Damn it looks like fun.

I forget how little most people care about conditioning. I did the bodybuilding workout split, powerlifting max effort training and thought I was in shape. I looked good, but damn I would get winded once.
I trained with a military friend of mine one day and I felt like I was going to die halfway through a met con training session and realized that I would prefer to be a little more rounded, more like an athlete than a specialized training regimen.
I have been training Max Effort Black Box, which concentrates on strength, power, recovery, and conditioning. Never felt better, still look pretty damn good. Training is usually done in under 45 minutes.
Not to mention that I feel better prepared and balanced. I feel that with 6 weeks of specialized training I could pretty enter any type of event and do pretty well wether it be strongman, powerlifting, bodybuilding or something crazy like a half marathon.
For me I feel better being more rounded. Plus it makes me feel good when my new training partners look like they are going to die during a session :)

I was messing around with the Cosgrove's evil 8 complexes, on this page: Tmuscle link (http://www.tmuscle.com/free_online_article/sports_body_training_performance/screw_cardio_four_complexes_for_a_shredded_physiqu e). I found that by the time I hit the back squats I was starting to get winded, it's pretty brutal. Keeps your heart rate way up there.
