I was reading the Palumbo diet thread, and there is a lot of talk about being in "full ketosis", and "borderline ketosis"...etc..

How the heck do you know if you are in full Ketosis, half ketosis, or in ketosis at all?

The best answer to your question is that it doesn't really matter :)

If you are following the Dp diet you are in ketosis.

Between day 3-5 you'll feel like death. Lethargic, light headed, moody, hungry and just plain nasty... but come day 6 or 7 and from then on you should be back to normal or even better, without the cravings... Just a little heads up I guess...
and then 3 days after that you get your first cheat meal and the grumpy begins all over again LOL

Almost done my first day. Not bad. I was already on a diet before this so I don't think the cravings will be that bad. Although I still have to go workout, and usually I crave carbs after my workout.

Are green Olives ok to eat with your green salad on Keto? They have 1 gram of carbs per serving but also 1 gram of fibre, so actually 0 net carbs.

Careful about how many... Plenty of fat in olives too :) Early in the diet it probably doesn't matter at all. I tended to follow the diet quite strictly and had excellent results. I find it's easier to keep to the diet if you are strict about it. Once you start looking for little extras it's too easy to rationalize things.

I only took 5 olives, which is one serving. 20 cals, 2g fat.

Finished my first workout on the diet. Actually felt good, got a good workout. Good first day! :D

^^ your body requires the carbs for more than psychological reasons

the refeed is part of the diet...

Nope 10 days :) first cheat meal comes after the first two weeks. However! During my trial of keto, I never once had a cheat meal and believe it significantly assisted my mind-set and lack of cravings. Competitors or anyone in general who give themselves a cheat once a week, learn to depend on it and really look forward to it. When it's crunch time and it's to be removed for the last X amount of weeks, they struggle. I ate the exact same things in the same portions at the same time every single day. Eating was just a part of my training and after the first three weeks I couldn't even taste anything anymore.
Not to say I understand keto fully but I have more of an education/experience with it than you. You went to keto (the latter part of keto) because you HAD to to get into contest shape. You didn't get refeed meals because you were behind in your conditioning with time quickly running out.

As L3 says, the refeed meal is part of the diet. It usually disappears 3-6 weeks out from a show depending on competitor conditioning. The refeed meal has a purpose and it's not *just* for mental stability.

Time to do some reading on the subject son.

As has been pointed out the "refeed" isn't about cheating. It's about keeping your metabolism from slowing down while you are dieting so that the diet is as effective as possible. Skipping the refeed makes the diet less productive and sets you up for a nasty rebound post diet.

After the first 12 weeks or so Veg/Protein days became necessary for me on the diet as did slowly increasing low intensity cardio after the first 8 weeks in order for me to sustain a consistent 2 pound a week body weight reduction.

It's a simple diet that's easy to follow and works. Is it the "best". I don't know. It's certainly the easiest to self implement.

On a keto diet because of the lack of carbohydrate intake thyroid levels (T3) will drop over time. The refeed meal is used for specific purposes...thats why I prefer to call it a refeed meal because as soon as you call it a cheat meal this brings up negative conotations. Everyone assumes the "cheat' meal is something that is going against the diet this however is not true...the 'refeed" meal serves many purposes the main being the thyroid issue stated above some others being muscle store glycogen replenishment which is necessary again on the keto diet because training requires glycogen...ketone bodies are not fast enough of an energy source for intense bodybuilding training. Another would be something to look forward to to keep you focused...and yet another would be to allow the body to process carbs on a consistent basis which aids in eventual carb loading days out from the contest.

Prae- i know you frown on training with no food/meals in you, i never do that... but how do you feel about training abs or calves in this state (post cardio) i have much more time and energy to do them here than i do after training weights for 60-75min

thx

Probably would be fine...the duration is short anyways and a small muscle group.
