Hey Guys,

Haven't been around here much lately, but I'm probably gonna start hanging around again. Looking to start a good diet so I'll probably be looking for some advice.

Found some old pics from a few years ago...not great but that was probably the leanest I've ever been. Definately want to get leaner that that this time around. I've always had trouble getting really lean.

Actually I was looking at the Palumbo diet...I might try it. I'm just not sure I can do the low/no carb thing.

Plus I'm afraid of getting Palumbism!:(

it sucks the first few days no doubt but once your body switches over to using ketones you're golden. I find it a way better style of dieting compared to the traditional low carb methods plus you get regular once a week refeed meals.

the only real thing I don't like are the digestion issues but I think I had an abnormal reaction meaning my issues were a little more extreme than most other people. It was tolerable through some digestive enzymes, laxatives and extreme hydration lol

And for me the cheat meals suck lol. Yes you read that correctly. My problem with the cheat meals is I never craved anything UNTIL I ate the cheat meal then it took 2-3 days before the cravings went away. messes with your head nicely haha

So what would your post workout meal be on this diet?

whatever I was supposed to eat as my next meal.

There's 6 meals and that's it. I eat meal #5 then workout an hour later and once I am done I eat meal #6.

There are no pre and post workout meals. They are not needed.

nate,a few quick questions on the keto diet as your always preaching it on here.is it really that good?ive always been a carb cycler my whole time ive been in this game and my prep coach wont tell me about keto because he said he hasnt bothered looking into it as what he tells me works, which it does dont get me wrong but the older im getting and more comps im doing my body is starting to fight back so was wondering about shaking things up.is it any good in the off season?im needing to put more bulk on this year as im quite tall and not heavy enough (zack khan made me look like a kid on stage last year!!) and with the carbs being (non existent?) will this work?
everytime i try to research it it comes up with god knows how many different peoples views and the values are always set for like 200 pounds and im currently sitting at 265.also can you still eat plenty veggies?if you can put it in laymans terms would be best as if it gets all scientific ill just get bored haha

If I could also add another question as well....

How does it affect you mentally? My job requires me to be somewhat focused and mentally sharp. This diet won't put me in a daze will it.....I daydream way too much already lol!

Well I'm certainly no expert when it comes to Keto and it would probably be best to have these questions addressed by Praetorian as our resident keto guru but I'll take a stab at some of them.

Is it good? Yes I think it is that good. I've done low carb, carb cycling and keto. Keto I felt the best on in terms of mood, energy and just being stable in general. Strength improved as the diet progressed and my body got used to using ketones for energy.

What I didn't enjoy were the digestion issues (lack of shitting) but was able to manage it through proper fiber supplementation (fiberlyze was my supplement of choice); laxatives and increased water intake.

The one-a-week refeed meal was also a bit of a love/hate as well. Mentally I didn't find myself craving anything in general but for a couple days following the refeed meal cravings were through the roof. I appear to be fine when I don't get the taste of the good stuff in my mouth :)

For maintaining muscle I've found it to be very effective. I felt rounder and fuller while peeling off the fat.

One generally cannot put on new muscle with a keto style diet. Carbs are required but I guess you could manage to put on a little but. I just wouldn't expect much.

I eat slightly more than the 200lbs palumbo diet when I start out and I'm 300 or so in the offseason with about 250'ish lbs of LBM. Your mileage may vary in terms of which version you do/need (if doing it on your own) but as we know the diet is not static - not is the cardio (tweaks are made as progress stalls).

Veggies are limited. Definitely can't eat more than what's recommended. I don't know why since something like spinach I would think can't add THAT much in terms of carbs to the diet but like I said, I am not an expert so I don't know the reason behind not being able to enjoy a few handfuls of spinach.

Not sure if these has answered your questions or helped at all but if you want more info I'll be happy to help or better yet... ask our resident keto guru - Praetorian :)

Cheers bud!

P.S. By no means do I say this diet is the be all, end all. From a pure bio chemistry standpoint this diet makes the most sense to me but we all know there are lots of ways to skin a cat to get the job done.
