When I see people who look like total slobs and are smoking I usually comment and make jokes about them etc. Never to their faces, just when I am with a friend, girlfriend or family etc. My girlfriend tells me that I should stop being so critical and that I am not being mature. We went on and on about it for 15 minutes!

When I am with my friends they laugh and join in and it's over in 10 seconds.

WTF? Im just having fun. It's funny to me but not her. It would be nice to be able to laugh together.

I don't know. What's your opinion? Maybe I am an asshole. I quite possibly might be and not realize it. Help guys and gals.

You're 100% right. I was at Loblaws today, just finished my shopping for the day. I grab my grocery bags and head towards the front door. Well timing has it perfect that I reach the door at the same time this fat (300 lbs) heffer gets there and I hear her say to her companion: "Huh, think I can make it through the day without getting killed". I stop and turn towards her. She's about in her mid-40's with an unlit cig in her mouth. I keep looking at her and just shake my head and I'm thinking quietly: "Maybe if you lost some weight, you would be able to squeeze through the doorway".

If sociaty wasn't judgemental, we'd all be fat and lazy... I'm really bad at shooting down people that look like they just don't give a shit.... My worst is ****ing people that wear jogging pants, pajama pants or those ****ing stretchy pants downtown..... What did you just give up on life? Is it way too hard for you to get dress this morrning. As for your wife she will come around..... My wife hated me saying things about others... 8 years later she made her first comment about someone walking by.... I laughed so hard... she said she hated ME after that......

Good to know im not alone.

I was at a coffee shop a while back and there was a girl about 19 years old ugly as a bulldog, smoking and wearing pajama pants and slippers in public. Just hanging out in front of the building with pink hair. She was hanging around very sad looking guys.

How the **** can't you comment on something like that? She also had an ear ring in her chin @ 185lbs.

All it takes is a little bit of will power. :)

plus remember stereotypes are inflicted on bodybuilding too.

The ONLY stereotype about bodybuilding that bother me is that all very muscular people MUST take steroids. Thats just from a lack of education and a high jelousy factor. On the other hand, "stereotypes" about fat smokers are all true facts, Not stereotypes. The fact that they are lazy, lack will power and eat bad foods etc are not stereotypes. They are facts. You can't get fat by eating a proper ammount of healthy food along with exercise and proper sleep; therefore all "stereotypes" about fat smokers are actually not stereotypes, they are facts.

Live and let live. If someone chooses to be an obese slob then so be it. YES, for most it is a choice. Ridicule is never proper. We can always find faults in others. That does not mean we should verbalize them. We all have faults that could be ridiculed. It is best not to say anything.

Would the following statement make a good t-shirt in your opinion? Feel free to make adjustments if you think you have better wording.

The belief that ALL bodybuilders use steroids is a stereotype, but the belief that all fat people are lazy and eat bad foods is not a stereotype, it is a fact.

Agreed but you can only control what you do. It is obvious they treat their minds like they do their bodies, they fill them with crap and reap the results.

I remember when I was in Paris for a vacation. A friend who lived there pointed and said "You don't see that too often" . I looked around to see what he was talking about and did not see anything unusual. He then directed me to an obese woman walking down the street. I had not seen her because it was not unusual in any mall you may frequent. I was shocked he would even say it, until I started looking. Besides the endless string of smokin hot chicks I saw when I was there I saw only a couple obese people. There was almost no fast food joints and packaged food was frowned upon. For most it is life choices that dictate our future.

im sure theyd say the same thing about bbing thier all vain self centered egotistical drug users. dont build yourself up by knockin other people down.if 50% of population is overweight or obese theres more to it than laziness or lack of self control.why dont youask an overweight person these questions or say it to their face. would you feel good about saying it. prob not. because you are wrong and you would feel wrong.why not get to know people that are different than you. youd be surprised to find were all alike in alot of ways

Over 65% of our population are considered obese!!! 65%!!! That's well over half! Sure there are a few who genuinely have a disease that causes this, but for most it's over eating and lazyness. To me obesity is like the plaque that swept through london killing 1/3 of it's population and going down in history as a huge disaster. The problem isn't getting any better either. Aside from all the heart problems associated with obesity, you then have to worry about diabetes. They estimate there are approx 21 million type-2 diabetics due to obesity with another 54 million being diagnosed with "pre-diabetes" which puts them right on the edge. You walk through our malls and you have a hard time finding the "thin" or "fit" people. What bothers me the most is when I see FAT kids. Little boys and girls who are 10 years old that weigh as much as I do. That's just poor parenting. Either way, if they are laughed at for being fat then it might make them realize and save a life or two.... or it could go the other way and they'll buy a tub of ice cream and sit at home depressed.

Diet and willpower aside, it seems that in our society nowadays being physically active is a conscientious decision. There is less and less out there that demands for us to be active, unless we work at a manual labour job. I've known people who would drive to the gym when it was only like a ten minute walk and if they didn't have access to their car then they wouldn't go. Heaven forbid it's showering that day too.. [don't even bother if it's snowing].. if people still had to spend hours in order to prepare their food (ie. hunting) for a meal then maybe we'd see a difference. Always comes back to calories in vs. calorie expenditure..since we don't have the expenditure in our complacent, lazy society we've focused on the intake (ie. diet). I just can't understand how someone can look in a mirror at them self and think that's a natural state of being (laziness aside). I know people can rationalize things in their mind, but c'mon..

Kinda like when a couple gets married and then let themselves go to pot.. no need to put effort in now, complacency rules. I realize this isn't always 100% of the time but I think we ALL know at least one couple.

I say it is unhuman not to eat right and exercise daily. We have been designed to do this. It is the only way we can be healthy, therefore it's the only way a human should be. No excuses. Just because we don't have to do it doesn't mean we shouldn't. I see it as laziness and I have no sympathy about it. Part of being human is being strong.

I completely agree. I'm not attempting to make excuses for obese/overweight people, just giving a different perspective. I know we've all heard the "conveniences of modern society as to how they impact on our activity and nutrition" bit before, so there's no point in beating it to death. You're right, it is just laziness pure-and-simple, there's no valid excuse for it though overweight people and their sympathizers may try to rationalize it. For those LIMITED number of individuals who truly have some medical condition (and hasn't been brought about by their own habits) we could probably feel some empathy. Problem is, when you have so many others making their excuses, it kills all empathy to the point where it doesn't exist anymore.

It'd be nice if we could instill more sense of self-discipline into kids but you'd have to start pretty early. Screw that "it takes a village to raise a kid" crap, mom & dad - get to work. lol

problem is overweight parents raise overweight kids. kids grow up thinking eating habbits are normal, cycle continues .they need to assess parents educate kids better in school and get kids in active life style. its obviously a societal issue when half of society is overweight. they gotta start saving these kids when their young. they say its the first time in human history that life span has declined simply because of obesity. it is a sad statement of our society when you can ram 2000 calories down your throat for 5 bucks.they need to take more seriously overweight children do whatever it takes to get them healthy even if it means taking them from parents who continue to abuse them with food after help is offered.

It is definitly not genetics. Different areas where one stores fat IS genetics, storing too much of it is not. That can be controlled.

i work with woman who is obese diabetic , overeats all day, her kids are obese and so are her grandkids, its learned behaviour plus bad genetics in their case, when i was young i could eat whatever the hell i wanted but couldnt gain weight.there is a genetic factor in there along with learned behaviour and societal changes that promotes overeating. i still feel sorry for people who dont even know how bad they feel cause theyve been obese their whole lives. ive offered help to this woman at work but she accepts that she is going to die young because her parents /grandparents did. sad, and ya pathetic.
