I am not associated with the show in anyway but I guess I should have posted this before then... ha ha ha

They have 1000$ purse for the overall winner, first time I see that for a level 1 show. Also, they placed it late in the season and its a qualifier show for the provincials so we will see guys from everywhere in QC competing.

The night show has 3 guest posers.

its not affiliated with Ontario in any way...I am not even sure ottawa residents would be allowed to compete.

I think you are right Steve but I don't know. I competed in the show in 2004 then took a step away from bodybuilding and didn't care anymore for a few years.

I believe 2008-2009 was a show open for ottawa/gatineau.

I competed in the Ottawa's in 2000 and 2001 while living in Gatineau but then in 2002 they wouldn't allow it... weird shit.

This year its just different because of what happened with OPA. Up until this year, the national capital classic was always open to both OPA and FCPAQ. However this year it is not sanctioned in any way by the OPA, meaning you can't qualify by doing that show.

My guess is the show will be small, however, with 1000$ prize, who knows...its usually small without the ottawa guys showing up. Honestly, there will likely still be people from ottawa going...just not the competitive ones who plan on going to provincials.

This was definately badly promoted in my opinion. This is the first I have heard of it. It was called the National Capital Classic in previous years, but that website seems to have been taken down. I was hoping to attend the show this year but already have plans for the weekend. I have a feeling it will be a poor turnout.

Looks like a quebec only show. Lets hope for anyone attending that some competitors will be coming up from montreal to make it a good showing. If not someone might be able to register today and walk away with a trophy.

You guys really think there are no good bodybuilders in Gatineau?

I wouldn't want to embarass myself again.
According the the judges I don't have the genetics for their specifications., not to mention my artificial knee holds me back.
I am just happy that I was able to step onstage when the doctors told me I would never beable to walk again.

Not enough people in gatienau for a gatineau only show. THe National capital classic had a low turnout and people came all the way from Toronto to compete.

You guys might be right about the low turnout but I hope you are wrong.

This year the FCPAQ (our provincial association) did 2 shows in May one for Eastern Quebec and one for Western Quebec those shows were limited to people living in those regions and excluded the Outaouais and Abbitibi.

They put this show in June and made it an open show for all Quebec residents so people who missed qualifying in May can retry again, our provincials are in July so people might step up and try to qualify here and then do the provincials.

That's what I am hoping for at least.

Thanks Nate.

I am satisfied with looking damn good on the beach and the gym, I can pass the uneducated eyes criticism. I will give it a couple years then try the masters, I could use the artificial joints for mercy points :)

I am going to have to start making some phone calls to tell my friends about this show. If my camping trip is rained out I will be showing up.

I went to the prejudging and it was a small show.

Masters had 3 guys.
Lightweight had 2 guys.
Middles had 4.
Light-Heavies had 3.
Heavies had 1.

Since I didn't see the night show I don't know who won each class or the overall.

This is a level 1 show so like you would normally expect not all the athletes were lean enough and not all of them knew how to pose. I have my picks for the winners of each class and they are the guys that were the leanest and posed the best.

No one was fat but I would say bodyfat percentage must have ranged between 5-8% based on 9-site caliper, 5-6% is competition ready 7-8% the upper body is really lean but legs aren't quite perfect yet IMO.

The masters looked really good, I always find this class so inspiring.

The middleweights was a competitive class and the winner was fairly obvious based on leanness and posing. The runner up was very close however with better legs. I believe this guys trainer was Eric Durand and his trainer did a great job coaching him on posing during prejudging.

There was a guy in the light heavies that must have been 5'7" and around 198, he had tons of muscle, huge arms and legs and pretty lean, lean enough to win his class however sadly the only pose that he mastered was the most muscular. He had a ton of muscle but couldn't show it off, this is very sad. He really would have needed a posing coach and practicing posing without a mirror. If he would have been a master poser he would have had the class easy and most likely the overall.

The second light heavy, Justin something was much taller and not as muscular but leaner and a great poser, he showed it off like a pro and it was his first show I believe, his tan was perfect and so was presentation. I am pretty sure he won the class and beat out the mass monster.

This was a reminder to me that next time I compete I need to practice posing a lot, often without a mirror and have someone coach me on show day.

The heavyweight was actually 198.3lbs and in the light-heavies but he and his trainer decided to have him eat his way to the heavies since there were no other heavies. This guaranteed him a first place and I think the trainer liked the fact that both of his athletes would have class wins, he was also training the guy that I think won the light-heavies.

The trainer is Joey Villeneuve and his 2 guys were in great shape and good posers, I think he did a really good job. Although, I don't typically work with a nutritionist pre-contest I would probably go see him for coaching on posing and I am sure he would be a good asset to have on hand on contest day.

Joey is a good guy and a seasoned competitor.

I did this show last year, and it was a lot of fun - it was my 1st show in 4 years and it was a great experience. I would have done it again this year, but I needed the time to prep for September's show in Hamilton. Andre Maillé is a great guy. We have a mutual friend - "ti" Jean Leblanc from Moncton, NB.

Live and learn - Its all good. He trained just as hard as the rest of us - ultimately the judges have the final say regardless of what others think. I appreciate the comment - It was still a great show and I more than made up for it in the Ottawa this past November. My focus is on the Natural Provincials in September..I want to make it to the Worlds - just to say I did it :)
