Am I the only one that ends up wrapped up like a mummy post workout?

Biceps, wrists, elbows. quads, knees, shoulders it seems like I'm always either icing, wrapping, taping or massaging.

I don't remember being a cripple when I was young but now I spend at least as much time rehab, prehab and recovery as I do lifting.

A function of lifting heavier weight with more intensity or just age?

Anyone else in the same boat?

Sorry hommie, the only thing I wrap is my right wrist. (My dominant side always gives me issues. GGRRR!) I forgot to say I am only 24 years old.

24 lol, at that age at guy's damned near invincible!

I don't know how old you are t but i'll be 52 this year and am rethinking the way i train. I'm not in as rough a shape as you, a bit of a shoulder issue and one knee at the moment. Seeing a accupuncturist for my shoulder and getting new ortho's for the knee.

I am takeing an extended time off from training untill all these issue's are taken care of, going on 4 months now. But like i said i'm leaning towards a cross fit type of training when i do get back to the gym. We'll see how that go's, i did just recently get Wendler's book so who know's how long the crossfit will last.

Have you ever thought about just takeing some time off to let yourself heal and regroup? I don't mean a week or so but however long it takes, could be in the months. When you are in that much pain your body is telling you something...

I agree with you.

I'd say that since september I've taken roughly 6 months off in total. Not all at once but (Sept - Dec was the most part completely shutdown) and while I am still a bit achy I am far better than I was.

Mentally it's killed me to take this time off and it was depressing and I got back out of shape again because when I am not training or doing too much physical activity it seems that I like to eat - and eat shit I shouldn't :( But, I'm hoping the time off will pay off in the long run. Plus, being smarter with my training going forward.

me too exactly. I feel 110% after my times off other than cardio. But for wrapping up.. I haven't needed to as of yet, I do believe by reading my body when it's hurtin/telling me to take a break could be the leading factor in preventing me from wrappin up...just my thoughts :greet

Oddly enough when my activity drops off my appetite drops off as well. In the 4 months of not training i've only lost 8 lbs. most of that is fat according to my wife. I'm sure being on HRT helps but i think 30+ years of hitting the weights solidifies ones gains.

Another thing you mentioned about being depressed by not being able to train, i was finding it very depressing going to the gym and only being able to do half of what i should have been doing.

I too am hopeing the time off will pay off in the long run...

Oh, trust me I was feeling depressed about not being able to hit it like I was used to as well but I was in prep mode at the time so my mindset was a bit more "do whatever it takes to get through this and get the job done".

I think I was more depressed about not being able to do simple thing like carry a case of carry from my car into my house.

Hey Tiramisu, I hear you, I am 38 and my it seems my recovery is getting worse by the day, I cannot lift with the frequency as I once did, my shoulders are in pain during and after pressing for the first time ever, my strength is still good but I think the lifting is taking its toll. I suppose we will get use to it, accept it and train smarter as time goes on but it sure is depressing.

Same here... The key for me is to do stretches before bed every night. Plus... Before even touching a weight in the gym, I do a 10 minute cardio warm up now and do light stretching before starting (nothing to intense as I know pre workout stretching can decrease strength), the do the multiple warm up sets before the actual warm up sets.

This takes 45 minutes as well most days before touching a weight. Needless to say, I`m in the gym for a long time before I`m done...

For now, only my wrists are wrapped.

Structural Integration saved my lifting life.

but i see myself quitting volleybal as my body can't take the impact anymore.

I guess that If I make the time to do 2h of hot yoga a week everything would be fine...
