Hey folks,

Well I started my prep 2 days ago - 14 weeks out starting my diet so that I can possibly come in leaner and dryer than I did for the Ottawa's. Any help, suggestions etc are definately welcome - I am hoping to place top 3 again this year - My head is back in the game, I suffered a minor set back with a knee injury, but I am back in action with high hopes - I am not taking too many supplements right now - other than protien like crazy, L-Arginine, Beta-Alanine and Purple K - Its what seems to work best for me, but any other suggestions would be terrific.

Thanks again!

Have a great one
Mike

I will be following along.

What is your weight and bodyfat now?

When was your last show and what was your weight then?

My Last show was the Ottawa North Eastern Ontario Championships in November 2009. - took 1st in my class, 4th over all in the classic and best posing award - Not a bad days work for my 4th show ever. I was 172 on stage at between 4 and 5%

I plan on coming in leaner this year - I am sitting between 8 and 10% now, as my obliques are coming out already as well as my seratis. I am just shy of 13 weeks out - but I am cheating a bit too so that I don't totally miss out on my summer. Its exactly what I did last time, diet slowly avoid muscle degeneration and maximize size and leaness. I plan on coming in at the same weight but hoefully even more shredded but with a bit more mass on my legs, Being 5"8 my legs aren't huge, but they aren't small either, but again not where I want them to be. Its my biggest fault I think. My diet is strict in the sense that durin the week I eat UBER clean and on weekends I have 2 cheat meals - Nothing over the top but enough to satisfy my cravings. Its all portion control really - for the last 2 shows I competed in I didn't do any cardio at all and I was extremely lean - but I am mixing in a little cardio towards the end of this diet to see if I can produce a little more striation and lean mass. I will keep you posted, and hopefully post progress pics during the transformation again. I am so looking forward to this show.

Think it would be bad if I did the same posing routine as last year for the Natural Provincials?

PS - where do you train Andre? I have been training at GymMax lately - wonder if you are there as well?

Plan looks solid. I also like to have a few cheat meals on the weekend but keep weekdays very strict, it might take me a bit longer to reach my goal but at least I am happy and feel balanced, just need to start dieting a bit earlier.

I personally wouldn't do the same posing routine, usually it's the same judges so they might remember it and find it lame that you didn't create a new one. At least change the song. ;)

I do train at Gym Max in Gatineau with my training partner, we are usually there Tues and Thurs nights plus Saturday mornings.

The opened a new one in the west end of ottawa that looks very nice based on pictures. I need to go check it out.

Thanks for the props man - I appreciate someone from the outside looking in on what I am doing - it always helps a lot to have input. I think you are right - I probably will change it up, but it just worked so well. I would like to change up the theme a bit and make it a little patriotic. I just have to find the right couple songs to mix together to make a polished sound.

I heard the same thing...I am going to be at Gym max tonight between 5 and 530 - come say hey - I am training chest tonight and maybe some more abs if I have the time. I train alone as I don't know anyone, and everytime I do have a partner they up and quit on me hahaha...

I would be game to check out the new Gymmax - Let me know I will head over with ya.

Well I best get back to work - only 1 hr to go thank god.

8.5 weeks till show time, and things seem to be coming along nicely. I am nervous as sin that I will peak early so I have been throwing some decent cheats in the mix with minimal effects in the sense of over all lean mass. I am growing more tired I find. I am hoping by taking Vitamin B supps that it will help and keep me on track. Also hope by taking it, that I won't test positive for anything. I am 100% Natural but I am afraid by taking either advil or somethign stupid like that, that I will test positive or something. Am I being overly paranoid?

Anyways, as soon as I am able to figure out how to post pics, I will have some up of my progress.

Cheers
Mike

If you want to attempt a pic posting, you can't do it in the quick reply box. You'll have to either press the Post Reply button or Go Advanced on the bottom of the quick reply box. Under the text area of the new page that opens, you'll see a Manage Attachments button. Click that and a little window opens up. Click the browse button to the pic or pics you want to upload. When you are finished that, make sure you click the UPLOAD button. Voila, your pics will be attached to the post.
Or you can use Nate as the middleman :D

You are probably being to paranoid. Here is what they test for:
http://www.wada-ama.org/rtecontent/document/2010_Prohibited_List_FINAL_EN_Web.pdf

I wouldn't be worried about vitamins or most OTC drugs but check the list.

I would be worried about using those supplements that have like 37 ingredients in them with names like super-nano-vapour-anaboliser and shit like that.

I think the odds of having anything "bad" in whey protein, creatine and store vitamins is pretty low.

Andre, I think I should be training with you to get my legs like that - HOLY SHIT DUDE! Great job

I like to think my legs are due to 17 yrs of hard leg workouts but my 10 year training partner insists it's all genetics. The reality is it's a combination of both.

When someone asks me how to bring up their legs I tell them to do 20 rep full Squats. I have them do 2-3 warm up sets then one all out set to failure of 20 reps on Squats.

If they can't do them full I have them do lots of stretches until they can get at least well below parallel.

I would have someone starting light say maybe 100lbs x 20 and Squat every 5-7 days while adding 5-10lbs to the bar. Within 6mths they should be able to do 20 x 225 full reps and their legs should have improved significantly.

For me low rep Squats never did anything, the magic was always with higher reps removing the stress from glutes, lower back and putting it in the Quads. I think the deep stretch at the bottom also helps a lot.

Besides that you can do another movement for Quads but it probably isn't necessary. Another trick is to build up the adductor's as big as possible, most people don't realize this but lots of the leg size comes from the leg adductor's and never neglect the hamstrings. Many guys with phenomenal quads have weak hamstrings. It's a muscle I feel pretty much everyone can improve on.

Andre, I can't thank you enough for your suggestions. I will do that this week for sure. I have been trying to tear them apart each and everytime I do them, but with out a spotter I can't really push myself to the utmost. I am giving it everything. I think its because I don't know a soul at the gym.....but thanks again - hope to train with ya sometime.

Cheers
Mike

Hey Mike how are things coming along. The show is in about a month right?

As for me, I have started training early mornings now for the last month or so. Training at 5am so I can have the evenings free for spending time with my son and finishing some home renovations.

Is this show part of the tested stream of shows for CBBF? In other words, im wondering if you did a tested novice/regional show and now qualified for this natural provincials?

I don't think there are any qualifying shows for provincials. Just provincials then nationals.

Ok this makes sense. I was asking because in BC they have only one tested CBBF show which is in Kelowna. And there appears to be no BC Natural Provincials. So i assume this Kelowna show is the "provincial" show that one would qualify at to go to a tested natural show.

I believe that's correct. In Quebec we have the provincials and then the nationals that's it.
