If you want to (legally) try some supplements in order potentially increase IGF-1 levels, I'd go with colostrum.

Here are a couple of references and corresponding abstracts that may prove useful:

http://jap.physiology.org/cgi/content/full/83/4/1144:

Abstract:

Effects of bovine colostrum supplementation on serum IGF-I, IgG, hormone, and saliva IgA during training. J. Appl. Physiol. 83(4): 1144-1151, 1997.---The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of bovine colostrum supplementation (Bioenervi) on serum insulin-like growth factor I (IGF-I), immunoglobulin G, hormone, and amino acid and saliva immunoglobulin A concentrations during a strength and speed training period. Nine male sprinters and jumpers underwent three randomized experimental training treatments of 8 days separated by 13 days. The only difference in the treatments was the drink of 125 ml consumed per day. Posttraining increases were noticed for serum IGF-I in the 25-ml Bioenervi treatment (125 ml contained 25 ml Bioenervi) and especially in the 125-ml Bioenervi treatment (125 ml contained 125 ml Bioenervi) compared with the placebo (normal milk whey) treatment (P < 0.05). The change in IGF-I concentration during the 8-day periods correlated positively with the change in insulin concentration during the same periods with 25-ml Bioenervi treatment (r = 0.68; P = 0.045) and with 125-ml Bioenervi treatment (r = 0.69; P = 0.038). Serum immunoglobulin G, hormone, and amino acid and saliva immunoglobulin A responses were similar during the three treatments. It appears that a bovine colostrum supplement (Bioenervi) may increase serum IGF-I concentration in athletes during strength and speed training

.................................................. ................

Positive results, but notice how they only used 9 participants. Hmmm

Here is another study:

http://jap.physiology.org/cgi/content/full/93/2/732

Abstract:

This study examined the effect of bovine colostrum (Dynamic colostrum) supplementation on blood and saliva variables (study 1) and the absorption of orally administered human recombinant insulin-like growth factor (IGF)-I (rhIGF-I) labeled with 123I (123I-rhIGF-I) (study 2). In study 1, adult male and female athletes were randomly assigned in a double-blind fashion to either an experimental (Dynamic; n = 19) or a control (Placebo; n = 11) group. The former consumed daily 20 g of Dynamic supplement, and the latter 20 g of maltodextrin during a 2-wk training period. After bovine colostrum supplementation, significant increases were noticed in serum IGF-I (P < 0.01) and saliva IgA (P < 0.01) in Dynamic compared with Placebo. In study 2, gel electrophoresis was carried out in 12 adult subjects with serum samples taken 60 min after ingestion of 123I-rhIGF-I and showed peaks at 0.6 and at 40-90 kDa, with the former inducing 96% and the latter 4% of the total radioactivity. It was concluded that a long-term supplementation of bovine colostrum (Dynamic) increases serum IGF-I and saliva IgA concentration in athletes during training. Absorption data show that ingested 123I-rhIGF-I is fragmented in circulation and that no radioactive IGF-I is eluted at the positions of free, or the IGF, binding proteins, giving no support to the absorption of IGF-I from bovine colostrum.

physical training; athlete health; human recombinant insulin-like growth factor-I absorption

.................................................. ..

Better study with more participants this time. This time the results were positive with p < 0.01. I don't think the supplement "Dynamic Colostrum" is around anymore, but there are still many colostrum brands on the market (note the huge daily dosage of 20 grams used in these studies though).

^^^ Don`t think that gonna work... It`s been debunked already. Don`t waste your money.

Some studies have shown negative conclusions, but I don't think its been debunked. It doesn't look like a convenient supp to take since 20 grams or more was used in many successful experiments.

Hilarious! You guys are worse than me in terms of being a sucker to buy suppliments. Yeah NOW makes the igf-1 product. Funny how I haven`t heard a peep of this being a worthy supp and I keep a close ear to the ground about stuff like this.

You sure seem in love with that colustrom ther jshort. You`ve seen studies showing it`s crap, yet still want to waste your money on it. Again, worse than me, lol...

Don`t take it personally guys, just busting your balls but still can`t believe you`re gonna buy this crap.

And for what`s shown in mags... Muscle Tech is everywhere yet nobody here uses it. There`s a reason for that... It`s overpriced garbage.

Without saying anything about Miracle Grow itself (which I haven't reviewed), with regards to colostrum, very well designed studies shows that it works depending on doses and what exercises one is measuring in the study...

I have never bought colostrum due to costs of necessary dosage needed (for those interested in purchasing the NOW brand I suspect you'll need to take doses several times that which is suggested on the package).

For those who are interested, the website UltimateFatBurner.com is a website designed to evaluate the ingredient profiles in popular bodybuilding and weight loss supplements. Though I don't always agree with what is said, the info is usually accurate and is based on published studies which are referenced in the review descriptions.

why you asking if you made up your mind regardless... you can obviously go down the way most of us took and spend tons of money on stupid useless supps or perhaps just buy Protein and Creatine and train hard... and not waste your money

I am asking if anybody here knows anything about it or tried it.I have not made up my mind. And I may spend money on it.The rest I am already doing.
It appears so far no one has tried it but believe in thier minds its junk and you so far have a 50 50 chance to be right or wrong.
I have seen supps come and go over the last 30 years and I realize the risks involved in buying unproven Supplements.

Decided to save my money and eat more muscle building donuts.IGF-1 has been linked to promoting some cancers.Proably in larger amounts, but a little scary to say the least.

Since this is not real igf-1, I don`t think you need to worry about the sides...
