A real reality check this morning. As I begin a summer "cut" I had the awesome opportunity to use the Hydrostatic weighing machine at UBC. My brother is doing his Masters in HKin and we spent over an hour in the facility. The overall goal was to get my bodyfat measured as accurately as possible. Coming in to today I had a rough idea of what I was at using basic observations from mirror and bodyfat callipers, AND even had jumped on the bfat electric scale at the gym which i figured was total BS. I will try and get some pics of the process, the dunking, weighing...etc as I took a few photos. The machine is very impressive.

Here were the results.
Callipers : 9.8%
Electric Scale at Gym: 7.4% LOLOL
Using the Mirror: 9-10%
Hydrostatic Weighing Machine: 11.855%

Overally message and point of this....for all of those who see the top two abs and throw out the generic "Im 5'10 , 200lbs with 10% bfat you are most likely OFF by a lot and are somewhat dellusional :)

Bingo!! That is why BF testing is a waste of time using these other methods. Go by the mirror...dont worry about the number...when your worst bodypart is shredded then you are ready. The same thing holds true for so many guys competing who think they gained x amount of muscle...only because they came in with more body fat this time and thought they were bigger when in fact they still needed to lose 10-15 lbs. Numbers dont mean anything in this game...smooth hams, legs, and glutes tell the sad truth.

What were you using for calipers - manual or digital & how many measurement sites?

i too did the water tank at ubc and yes, it is THE method for measurement. it will always come in higher then other methods. that being said its a hard process to do properly, getting all the air out is tough.

i took a body comp course through kin at ubc and was the test dummy for most of the stuff. calipers had me at 7%ish and the tank put me at 10%.

again none of it really matters, id rather be 20% and look shredded

The only reason I like BF testing is that it gives you an idea what direction you are moving.
It that pool at UBC accesible to the public?
