View Full Version : Bringing a logbook to the gym?

Got a question for you gym pros. What are the guidelines for bringing a workout logbook to the gym? Unlike most trainees I see, I like to keep a log of my workouts, so I can progressively increase the resistance I train with. I strongly believe that plays a big part if you really want to see any progress. Now my question is, remember that my memory is pretty bad, can I carry my logbook and write down my workouts as I go from exercise to exercise?

why not? do whatever works for you. if lubing up makes you bench 50lbs heavier or curl an extra 35lbs then do it. me i just come home and write it down, but if you have poor memory, by all means.

Exactly, I can't imagine lifting weights and not logging my progress.

Logs are great. It's nice to beat your previous week #'s and see the progress.

I do alot of exercises and can't remember every exercise and ammount of reps of each.

Did this for over for 10 years.I also noted what hurt my old injury.

Freebsd, When i first started to compete i had to log workouts but also sleep, injuries and calories on my chart. it was actually good to go back over and see how much sleep i really needed to perform at the gym, and when i wasn't performing that well it also helped to answer why. hope that helps.

I always write everything down - always have. Like others have mentioned, I also write down injuries, what exercises aggravate them, my weight, etc.

It's especially important when I am prepping.

Plus, my PL coach would kick my ass if I didn't email him my numbers and workout details. He's threatened to sit on me - and that's definitely something I want to avoid at all costs.
