Just wondering when i shoud start wearing a belt? I can pull 405 for reps and squat 315 for reps.... when i push hard (especially on squats) my lower back feels it for the next couple days. I run heavy equipment and the seats in those things arnt exactly the most comfortable. My form and technique are good, just wondering if im lifting heavy enough to use a belt.

I never use them, in my opinion, belts, straps, wraps should only be used for injuries

If you want to save your back then use it.

I put it on when i get to about 400 on the squat and go up and over 500.

I do find it hard deadlifting with it on , but it helps.

I use a belt for max effort and one set before to adjust to the change prior to doing the max effort on squats and deadlift. If I'm going for a PR I will wear it through my warmup and then for my lifts.

I am a fan of belts and think they are really important and necessary for heavy seats.

Maybe you should focus on the abdominals more.

In my experience, I never had any type of core strength before. I slowly developed this weak area and can now pull 400lbs+ fo reps with out any belt.

Use a belt for when you are going for 2 or 1 rep max or when you are concerned about any low back injury. Be better not to use one IMO.

this is what I believe also.

In the rehab section I posted 2 thread about the transverse abdominal you should read them.

I wear a belt for 315 and over, for sure saves the back AND i can do the sets without a belt no problem... core work 3x a week.

It definitely gets in the way during deads but it does help like said above.

I always wear a belt squatting from 315 up (which is starting at a pretty light weight for me). I've never had any injuries.

Belts are braces, the more you use them the weaker the muscles will be!

The only reason for you to use a brace/belt is when you are going to a maximum lift where there is a danger to the integrity of the joint.

Same thing for wrists straps and any other brace: do accessory movements, get a better grip, you CNS will them allow your body to lift heavier weights.

That said use them only if you are going to 3RM or under.

I don't typically use a belt then again I know I know, I don't squat much lol. I think I have such horrible form and my knees are always screaming!

I do however have genetics so my quads look like I squat more than you do haha! I wear my belt if I am gonna DL over 200 pds. Also at times when doing stones but usually only after a long day at comp or training and I am spent and my back is fried.
