The stimulis.
The alternative to that was to not spend.... They tried that prior to the great depression. Look at what happened after they let Lehman Brothers go under.... If they didn't bail out those greedy dicks, like it or not things would have gotten real shitty.

Paying for 2 wars with a tax-cut didn't help either.

Universal healthcare is part of it, but the cost of doing nothing was going to bankrupt things anyway.
