View Full Version : hammies
mine are pretty pathetic, but i cant do good mornings or SLDLs on leg day as my lower back is wayyyy too pumped, only leg curls....
thinking about doing 3 sets each of GM/SDLD at the end of back day...couldn't hurt right?

The best exercise for hams is full deep squats followed by glute ham raises...leg curls pale in comparison.

could drop the dbol or suck it up and get through the exercises.
Agree with P. glut/ham raises... woahhhhhhh
Also: full/deep leg presses where you chin eats our knee with help build the hamstrings as well.

thankssIf your back is pumped on leg day, then back day will be tough also......High leg presses with toes off the end of board is another one to consider along with prae and Nates thoughts...

Full squats for sure bro, if you do them right they should not stress your lower back to the point where it gets super pumped. Keep your upper body really up right (not good morning it out of the hole), it takes a lot of flexibility to do it though. All glutes and hammies.
Try the leg press too but dont try to go so low that your lower back comes off the back support! #1 leg press mistake IMO, serious lower back strain.

you could try some single leg standing hamstring curls as well. that helped mine, keep the reps higher like 15 to 20 reps. with about 60 percent of your max. squeeze the piss outta them at the top, go slow on the way down. really concentrate on them and they will come.

if your going to do squats get the bar to rest right on the top of your traps that will help you keep your back straight.

these are also deadly for the hams. at the top, raise your heel and flex those hammies.
as P said , Low rep full deep squats will kick the shit out of them.
Pull throughs are also a great exercise.
Could someone pls explain what glute ham raises is. Thanks in advance.

Thanks Nate. It looks similar to reverse hyper machine. Can't wait to include this exercise in my hammie workout. Not sure about sets so I'm going to try 4 sets with reps til I can't do anymore. Thanks again Nate.
