Just for fun, "Who is the strongest man ever?" I am a bodybuilder who has trained in both powerlifting and strongman (never competed) and I am fascinated by strength feats.

Opinions and point of views are welcomed.

*I threw Ronnie in the mix, and if u seen his DVD, "Ronnie Coleman The Unbelievable" you would agree with him being in the poll.

Louis Cyr

This is hearsay, but, a friend of mine trained with Hugo Girard, and apparently Hugo has some of Louis' old "equipment" that he used to lift... and Hugo says that he is unable to lift it...

I have met most of those guys, and they all have one thing in common... they are really humble and erally good to talk too... i voted for ed coan because the dude can still pull over 800 goofing around in his gym.... but if i coyld vote twice i would put andy bolton there too....

Ditto on Coan. I tried his strength routine for a month, and gained 20 pounds on my lifts. His body is perfect for all those crazy lifts(long arms, short torso).

I'd go with Savickas.

Pudz and Magnus Ver are both fast, but I think they lack the strength of Savickas and Kasmaier.

Kasmaier supposedly said himself that Savickas is #1.

Not to forget the other greats, here is a list of all other people who deserve respect and recognition: Lamar Grant, Jon Pall Sigmarsson, Franco Columbu, O.D Willson, Naim Suleymanoglu(Pocket Hercules), Vasyl Virastyuk, Louis Cyr, Brian Siders, Leonid Taranenko, Mariusz Pudzianowski, Magnus Ver Magnusson, Bill Kaizmer, Louis Uni, Derek Poundstone, Paul Anderson and any one who can lift weights that bend the olympic bar. :bch

there is no correct answer cause there is no answer. you can pick a strongest ever man in their own chosen sport ie weightlifting: lenoid tarnenko biggest clean and jerk, powerlifting in the super heavy weight IPF standard (im not sure who but someone can name the all time total 3 lift record) same goes for body building and world strongman, there is no one answer.

each are trained in their chosen discpline. what lenoid can clean and jerk, bill kazmier can't but he can't bench what kazmaier can etc.

but i guess if you had to for arguments sake you can use the wsm competition as all the compeitiors that have competed come from various backgrounds but even then u still can't as how would u know if so and so had entered what the result would be.

no way to pin point it which makes it interesting.

but the clean and jerk has been used time after time as a measure of true body strength and is considered the worlds strongest man

Not sure if I have the exact correct spelling...Angus Macaulay no doubt. His skeleton has been examined,he died in the mid 1850's I believe. Some of the Nova Scotians might know more.Born in Scotland,7 feet tall, estimated weight 400 lbs,65 inch chest and 39 inches across at the shoulders,IIRC.Died when he took a bet he couldn't carry a 2000 lb anchor across a gangplank.Put it on his shoulder and started across, the plank broke and he died of his injuries the next day.

Agreed, Pudz is up there for sure, but from the list you would have to pick Kaz, none of the others on the list you could even put up a decent argument as to why they would even be in his league

I have to add my vote for Pudz. He should get extra points for being so athletic. And HOT. :handsome

Not adding much to the conversation, am I? heehee

Absolute strength. In relative terms a 6 yr old kid is stronger than most adults.

Pudz isn't all that strong compared to the top guys. Just the right combination of strength, speed and overall athleticism. For absolute strength there are probably 100 better choices.

Since we are all part of some specific disicipline, we can only manage to create factions. Its bodybuilding Vs. powelifting Vs. olympic weight lifting Vs. WSM. For sure we wont be able to find the ONE true pick, but its great that we are discussing the topic.

However, one curious thing that I found was a common factor, was the fact that all these greats I mentioned are/were ALL over 6'.(Except Columbo, Suleymanoglu, Gant yet they were freaks in their own right)

That sucks for me cause I am only 5'4"! GRRR!

yet, if you are short and have an impressive bench "it's because your arms are shorter". haha, that always made me laugh.

I saw some of Cyr's equipment in a small museum in Lachine before Weider bought the stuff. There was a pyramid of steel with a ring that he would put his middle finger through, one hand on a knee and deadlift, over 500 lbs...
