Hi folks, I'm new to the board and haven't had a chance to look around yet. I'm a figure competitor and busy Mom from Calgary, Alberta, 9 weeks out from my next show (more about me... (http://www.scottabel.com/clients/crystol.php)).
I wanted to give anyone interested the head's up that my Coach is being interviewed on siouxcountry.com tomorrow, with the interview being posted on April 27.
Scott's recently been discussing metabolic damage and contest rebound and has caused quite a stir among the women on the siouxcountry forum. The articles that have prompted some of the buzz are these two that were posted on http://scottabel.blogspot.com/:

Hope you'll pop over and listen in! :)

Go check out our interview from last night with Scott Abel.....................

I cannot thank him enough for his time. What an amazing person he is. His passion and un-ending knowledge radiate through every word he says.
We touched on a lot of serious issues within this sport! Some of ya'll may get your feelings hurt but this is the REAL DEAL.
It's worth a listen if you are a competitor struggling with your body image now that you have been competing through seasons of dieting, heavy training, etc.
I would also encourage all trainers to listen to this as Scott challenges each of you. Keep an open mind as you listen and really think about what you are REALLY offering your clients. Interesting stuff......
Go to his site: www.scottabel.com if you are like me and can't get enough!

I agree with what Scott says but he is a contradiction from his old days and how he used to 'coach' his athletes. It was his way or the highway.
He's evolved over the years and I like that and I think if anyone has the ability to speak out on drug abuse and the problems associated with the bodybuilding lifestyle it is him. He's been there and done that so good on him for making that change and being willing to say it but he should be a bit more open himself on the fact he USED to be that 'other' type of coach than what he is now.

Thanks countrychic! Happy to be here.
Hey, natenator, I agree that Scott has been to the dark side and is for sure a changed man (that's what happens to a lot of us with some life experience, eh? :) )--that's what makes him so qualified to recognize faulty thinking in his clients and help steer them back onto a less destructive path. He addresses exactly what you're getting at in numerous interviews, but expecially in the books Your Truth is Calling, The Other Side of the Mirror, and in the MP3 The Truth About Training (lots of very frank steroid and pharmaceutical discussion at the end of that MP3).
He had a life-changing moment, a very low point, a number of years ago, for sure. After that, he has said he got to the point where he no longer wanted to BE right, he wanted to start DOING right. I can't attest to what sort of Coach he WAS, I can only speak to the sort of Coach he now IS.
For the record, he has all sorts of clients, from those who compete in tested shows to those who compete at professional non-tested shows. Each client is treated as an indiviudal. MY BF and I are both with Scott, both in prep for Albertas right now, and both being Coached quite differently because we're very different athletes and people.
This particular interview hits hard on Coaching and, for lack of a better term, coaching incompetence in the industry, contest rebound, metabolic burnout/damage, body image, and especially the impact of poor Coaching on women in particular.

Crystol88,
If Scott wishes to advertise on this board he may contact MP and discuss such an option. This board costs money to run and it isn't fair that you come on here and advertise Scott's services, books, videos and seminars for free while other companies have to pay. Consider this your 1st (and only) warning.
