So I've been pondering how I can help myself stay in a routine and I'd like to hear how you guys help yourselves. We all know that it's really easy to break those good habits or routines that you try so hard to keep up. So any little thing that you do to help you stay on it will make your life that much easier.

Any detail you can give might be beneficial to those reading. Like when you work out in the day, how often, how do you pack your lunch for work, when and how do you cook it, when do you take your supplements, how do you make sure your diet is key, how do you stay motivated, etc..

So what's in your bag of tricks?

I know there's probably a couple of threads around but I haven't had much luck.

i try to cook the majority of my meals 2x a week in batches, usually sunday and wed/thursday

breakfast gets cooked every day, pack 2/3 meals for work while the eggs are frying, its all in tupperware anyways. supplements are taken with breakfast morning and pre workout

workouts happen after work, 7 days a week, 2 hrs after my last full meal

i used to be very very strict in adjusting my lifestyle to be optimal in the bodybuilding sense, but in the long run its just not maintainable... now i actually get to enjoy myself, and see friends/have a "girlfriend"/eat out once in a while

Does anyone premix their Protein?

I always have trouble mixing at work - I need a blender.

So I was thinking about premixing it before I leave for the day. What do you think?

What L3 said could help, but theirs really no tricks either u want to do it, or u don't. I don't think it's a good idea to premix ur shakes u need better protein, something that u can mix in a shaker bottle.

There are times when I know my motivation will be low. Work super busy, winter blahs, etc so one trick I have used is to give a friend (someone you TRUST) $1K with the understanding that if you don't reach a certain goal you've set out for yourself then they can keep the money otherwise you get the money back.

Well I was taught to work smarter, not harder. I'm just starting to get serious about starting a routine and was looking to gather knowledge about the subject. Surely anyone can "do it", but there can be ways to make "do it" easier, faster, and more correct.

Yes there is. Hire someone.

You won't do it faster than hiring someone to construct the plan for you.

For my last job I used to premix two shakes the night before. They consisted of 500ml milk, 24g protein, cup of oats and a tbsp of olive oil.

... don't obsess. You will fall off the wagon, miss workouts, get hurt etc etc. Shoulder hurts - do legs. Missed a workout - call it recovery and go heavy when you go back in.

Pre-cooking food is huge but unless you are on a keto/contest diet there's nothing wrong with the occasional (one or two meals a week) see-food diet.

Once it becomes a life style then a few weeks off is called a vacation.

Genetics are a bitch and everyone is looking for a silver bullet but what it really takes is a solid 5 years of regular heavy lifting and eating to get close to what your body will allow. Most of the other stuff is just what we do to keep our brains distracted.

What's wrong with premixing? Does something happen to it? I blend 2 shakes for the day sometimes when I'm on the road for 4 hours...I blend it ahead because I mix with almond butter.

Just wondering if I should stop doing that for some reason?

^^^I just don't see how the protein powder can stay stable in water for that long, i could be completely wrong though.
