Let me say that again. Canada's heathcare sucks balls!
Ya know, for being so educated, doctors are pretty ****ing dumb. My mom went to get a cut on her foot looked at that was swollen. It was clearly infected so what does this asshole doc do? Instead of perscribing antibiotics he takes a swab, and it takes a week and a half for the result to come back. Well during this time the infection spread and now my mom has to have a toe and finger amputated.
So after not hearing from them for a week my mom went to the walk in clinic and the doc there said she should have been started on antiboitics right away. So now she's on these really powerful antibiotics that are making her puke and everything to try and clear up this infection that should have been taken care of by the first doc.
These dipshits are so disorganized when they got the results finally they called the house and said " we have the results about the cut on your arm." My mom goes what the **** are you talking about the cut was on my foot. Of course they didn't know what to say. How do you mix that up? Seriously!WTF!
Oh oh oh and here's the ****ing topping! My mom goes back to the first doc and tells him what happened and says thanks asshole now I'm losing a toe and maybe a finger because of you. You know what this asshole said?! "it's just a toe." It's just a ****ing toe! Who the **** says that! It's not your ****ing toe! I want to go down there with bolt cutters and snap off one of his toes and be like " hey it's just a toe."
In fact I am gonna go down there and cause a big ass scene in his office. Maybe smash a chair or two. **** it.

Consult a lawyer and decide which course of action is best for you.
Sorry that crap happened to your mom.
Lawsuit for sure. No way can that go unpunished.

It's not easy to sue a medical practitioner in Canada. Weird laws we have here. A consultation with a lawyer would make you clear on the options you have.

Pursue any legal course of action you can take.. if that doesn't work, take one of his.
Or file a complaint with the medical board to have his license revoked.
What a ****ing piece of shit. Man, I'd lose it if a doctor said that to me or that was my mom. Some of these pricks have absolutely no business practicing medicine.
Phone an injury Lawyer and if they take the case they won't charge you a cent! They will take 30% of what ever your poor ma settles for. It's a simple process. Sorry to hear about your mom, that's messed up!!

Gotta agree with the lawsuite part. I hate the doctors in my hometown with a passion, they knew 5yrs ago my dads kidneys were at 50%. Today he is at 11%. Take the doctor for whatever you can.

My family suffered at the hands of a doctors negligence also, malpractice lawsuits arent common in canada but they are not unheard of, consider talking to pdh about this. Canadian doctors must carry liability insurance for a reason.

Something like this happened to a friend, she was in deep pain but they said her treatment would be on hold just to wait for a test results. A day went by and they haven't informed her yet, so he went to a walk-in clinic for a second opinion, the Dr. gave her something to ease her pain immediately and pushed for a minor surgery.
Who knows what might have happened if she waited for her GP's call. Lesson is if you are not satisfied with the treatment they give you go to another doc for confirmation.

Agreed...It sucks what happened to your Mom and the doctor is a low-life. That being said, we take our cars to different mechanics for a second opinion and get multiple quotes on house repairs. We should do the same for ourselves.

You can act as tough guy as you want but deep down everyone loves there mother. I no i do. And if someone negligence hurt her like this i would be absolutly angry and torn about it. Im not very educated on malpractice lawsuits and i know its expensive but i would love to see DR.Douche pay for such a stupid ass mistake.

my experience with docs
a buddy went to the doc with intense abdominal pain and was told to go home and eat some yogurt for his "tummy ache". well, the doc must be right no? went home ate yogurt, started puking everywhere, back to emergency and with a new doctor they find out his stomach is riddled with ulcers and bleeding, he spends the next week in the hospital eating ice chips.
-------------------------------------------------------------
a past GF had extremely bad menstrual complications every month. on the floor in the fetal position crying from cramps, sometimes experiencing crazy flow and sex was almost always painful. after a year of going to her MD and nothing being done, i pop on google and start narrowing down her symptoms. endomitriosis is what i come up with, so i send her to the doc and tell her not to take any shit and demand a test for it. well damned if she wasnt soon booked in for surgery for endomitriosis.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
or my step mother that was told for years she was a hypochondriac until they finally tested her for MS. nice one douche bags.

I think there are band-aid doctors around too. However, there are excellent ones in the mix. This medical practitioners who fail at their responsibilities should pay for their incompetence since we are entrusting them with our health and life directly. It's not like fixing cars that you could just bring it back to the mechanic if it won't start anymore :(

Lazy doctors and an overworked health system. I have lost all faith in the canadian healthcare system. My best friends grandfather just passed from cancer. He had lung cancer and it was three months before they started him on chemo. Well the cancer spread to his liver and brain in those three months. He's dead now.

It's not all doom and gloom...I've had nothing but good experiences myself. I guess we're lucky to have a good family doctor. February 2009, my mom was diagnosed with cervical cancer, and within a week, she was undergoing radiation treatments. June 2009, she was cancer free, and still is to this day. We have some of the best cancer research centres in the world.
Sucks that there are so many horror stories out there it seems. :(

Well I went over the parents house yesterday and my mom isn't going to pursue this. She's not going to sue him or anything. I am in disbelief right now. Now I'm not a greedy sue happy time person but I would at least like to see his license revoked or some type of administrative punishment.

This is the net result of a universal health care system. The first thing that happens is the "braindrain" because no matter how good of a doctor you are you will make the same $$$$ as the worst doc. in the next room. There's no incentive to be the best. So they go to greener pature's.
Universal health care puts doctors into a "slave" of society catagory, health care is a "right" and thats where it fails.
I could take my car to Bob, he's cheap but everyone knows he's a shitty mechanic. Or i could take my car to Frank, sure he's more expensive, but he gets the work done everytime.
The end result is that we now all have the right to the same shitty health care. No "special" treatments. We are all equal, thats the Canadian way...
Doctors, Dentists ect.. Regulate themselves. The only way to have it noticed is if another Doc says the Doc in question was negligent. Hard to do. Another way (best way) is to sue for damages because this situation could have been avoided if diagnosed properly (forcing his community to look into it and punish him). I'm not a Lawyer, but she does have a good case IMHO. I'd persue it because god only knows what this clown might do to other people! Or maybe he has done it to other people already? Scary thought! I'd convince my mom to talk to a Lawyer because how much money is she going to lose during/after this guys negligence? How much are meds and therapy? Emotional stress, can she do the same job after this? ect.. It has nothing to do with seeking a lottery ticket! Sue this clown and get what he did noticed! Talk to a Lawyer, it costs you nothing. You walk in sit down and he asks questions. Then he says yes or no if he will take the case. If he says yes, you sign a few papers and he does the rest. He will explain to you that at the end of the settlement he will take 30%. Again, you pay absolutely nothing! It's up to the Lawyer now to get you justice! He will fight hard for you because he's making a percentage. It will take her an hour out her day. If you're in Edmonton hit me with a PM..

Believe me dude I tried for an hour to talk her into a lawsuit. She wouldn't listen to me. She says she has enough stress(waiting for a kidney/pancreas transplant) and doesn't want anymore she just wants it over with and to forget about it.
Trust me a I argued about it. The second doctor she saw a week later even said she should have been started on the antibiotics RIGHT AWAY. I told her she has a good case. She won't listen.

We don't all suck. Some definitely do. Just like anything else in life, you should research your doctor before you accept him/her.
In an emergency, you stuck with what you got, unfortunately.
Very few doctors are lazy-- there are a lot of easier ways to make money, trust me- but some are burned out and others have functionally thrown in the towel battling a system that is fundamentally flawed and crumbling, particularly primary care.
I'm sorry the system and the doc failed your Mom. You should be mad and its unforgivable.
The lawsuit is not a slam dunk like you might think. You need to establish violation of the standard of care, harm and causation. The first two are definite here but proving causation is not easy. If she needs a pancreas/kidney transplant then the CMPA may argue that antibiotics would have very little impact on the progression of infection in an immunocompromised, neuropathic, ischemic digit. They're probably right, too-- but that doesn't mean antibiotics shouldn't have been tried early on. You might run it by a lawyer who may agree to take it on without a retainer. More likely, he/she will tell you not to bother as the payout v.s. the cost will not be favourable.
There is something you can do something on your mother's behalf that might make a large impact, though. You can write a letter to the provincial college of physicians and surgeons (Google it and click on the complaints link). Write them a letter that is nice and calm with all the facts. No emotional stuff, just the facts. Tell them you expect the doc to be investigated and you want to be kept abreast of the investigation. They have to do it or give you a reason why not. Be patient as the process can take years sometimes. It WILL make his life miserable and he will think twice before treating another patient like your Mom in that manner again. If this is a pattern he may lose his licence temporarily or even permanently.
In the old days, even 10 years ago, there was a lot of covering for each other. Definitely NOT anymore. Lawyers have no problems finding expert witnesses to testify against colleagues (I do it) and the College is much more aggressive about investigating and disciplining the members on behalf of the public lately. M&M rounds (morbidity and mortality rounds) where we discuss bad results and flagged complaints etc have become known as "blood letting rounds".
Hope your Mom is feeling better and gets her organs soon.

Our government rather spend money on some useless doctors who will have you come for 2-3 times before they would help you , WCB will rather pay off wage losses to People who take stress leave( instead these people should be charged with sexual harassment but employers think differently ) and the ones who injure them-self with small stapler ,My wife worked with broken bone(she didnt know of) in her foot for over two weeks and when she had enough , she reported the injury, she had to take 4 weeks off work and buy foot/ankle splint WCB declined her claim not willing to pay even $200 for splint ,
thank god ,my private insurance through my job reimbursed us they took their sweet time but at least they did aright thing.
with this system you cant trust any one have always go to get second opinion . sorry about your mom , if i were you I wont even talk to him , check with lawyer if you can get some settlement for your trouble
