View Full Version : 3-D Televisions!
I got a sneak peak at Sony's new 3-D t.v. that is slated to hit the market this summer and it is ****ing unreal.
It operates via a completely different technology than that of movie 3-D and the glasses you wear are actually little LCD screens that produce some dazzlingly beautiful effects.
I got to play a PS3 game on it in 3-D and let me tell you, THIS IS THE FUTURE OF GAMING. For those that own a console, if you try this, it will change your life. Im lucky enough to work for playstation to have access to this stuff but when the world cup this summer is broadcast in 3-D by ESPN in the states, it will revolutionize television forever.
This technology although still incredibly expensive, IMO is worth the cost if you can justify the price tag.
The new sony t.v. even has capabilities of up-converting non 3-D channels into 3-D. SOOOOOOOOO SICK!!!!!!!!

samsung has some out as well but i think sony will be the front runner..... no use getting a boner over it now though as the price will drop big time in the next few years as the electronic market is one of the most competitive markets there is.......... very cool to see though

Its going to cost about half as much for the tv just for the glasses to go with the TV. The news said the other day that its going to cost like 4000 for 4 pairs of glasses

Who watches Soccer?
Find me some 3D porn and then we have something to talk about.
The 46" they have runs for around $5k I think.
I believe it comes with 2 pairs of glasses, and extra glasses cost around $300-$400 each.

The content isn't driving the technology in this case. Panasonic dropped it's kuro displays because people weren't willing to pay extra for a high end television.
People will buy bigger and cheaper but hi-def 5.1/7.1 and now 3D are driven by content. DSOTM and Dire Straits - Brothers in Arms may be amazing 5.1 recordings but you can't justify a great sound system on 2 albums. The movies barely utilize positional sound. Some of the new hi-def movies are worth watching on blu-ray on a 1080p monitor but just barely.
Hollywood production quality is generally pretty damn cheap. FM radio sound quality and just good enough picture is still the rule of the day. Putting crappy sound on DTS and bad images at 1080p doesn't really make them better.
Yes there are a couple of exceptions, Pixar/Disney but there's not enough content to drive the purchase.

Just like you asking Warlock to pick out matching bags and shit huh? Boy, the contradiction... How`s that glass house of yours holding bro?
^^ did you read the part about upregulation? normal channels will appear in 3-D on the Sony.
Its not AS crisp, but its better than normal. If you have the money its worth it.

I sure was hoping none of that wasen`t serious. However I must bash soccer every chance I get, lol... Besides we`re on the same team here. On that note, time to get ready for work.

my sister got this deal about a week or two ago...
to note, if you don't have the glasses its not like at the movie theater, the picture is just regular.. so you could watch in 3d and your buddy in regular view at same time..
crazy how technology is progressing last few years.. When my dad was a kid there wasn't even basic tv.. my grandfather used to own a movie theatre and everyoen went there to watch the news lol.

I am in the technology field and one thing I know is that you should never buy emerging technology before it has had a chance saturate the market and be test driven by consumers.
New technology is often plagued with problems or longevity issues. It always takes a few years to work out the kinks and make the technology better. I remember when the DVD format and players came out in 1997. The first generation players had problems and ran something like $2000. Take a look at your DVD players now; run perfectly and you can find them at walmart for $30. Just sayin'.
Some technologies become obsolete before they even have a chance to saturate. How many people shelled out big bucks on BetaMAX players in the 80's just to have VHS take over the market and wash them out. Similar thing with Bluray and HDDVD.
There's no way I am going to pay a premium price for a 3D television just to be a guinea pig for the technology. A few years from now it will be much safer (and cheaper) to purchase these sets, that is if they are even on the market still

Its not AS crisp, but its better than normal. If you have the money its worth it.You can not 'upregulate' a standard 2D image to 3D. That's a misnomer. You can attempt to convert a 2D image to 3D, but I've seen the results and the cost does not justify the conversion in my opinion. It's like in the 50's when they tried to convert old black & white movies/tv shows to color because color was brand new technology. It looked like shit. Until all major networks are broadcasting in 3D (that won't happen for years) it is not worth it in my opinion.
