Hey guys,
So here's the situation, i'm in the military and i'm away on course at the moment, and i'll be eating meal hall food for the next 5-6 months. This makes it nearly impossible to count macros/cal etc and i'd like to cut down to 10-12% area from the approx 17-18% i'm sitting at now.

The food isn't all that heathly for the most part, lots of white rice etc. Anyone been in a similar situation and managed to have a somewhat decent diet?

back when i was in first year of uni i lived in rez which i am guessing is somewhat similar

most guys that i know in the military though, lose weight due to the large energy expenditure required by their job, so i personally wouldnt worry too much... i definitely wouldnt be concerned with actually counting cals and macros, i dont even do the latter for contest dieting!

what are the general foods available to you though? im sure some are better than others and you can simply lean towards the ones that are better without getting too detailed oriented

id say try and stick to the relatively healthy things, and like with anything else, portion size is important. Try and eat more of the meat and just a handfull of the rice kinda thing....

Cool, thats what ive been doing, just need to get the back into cardio as i've just been concentrating on my lifts lately. But with the job its just flying so theres not much energy exposure due to the job, just what I do on my own

When you are in line ask for double helpings of meat and only salads. Have your carbs in the morning with breakfast. If you tell the guys in line your on a diet I'm sure they'll be accomodating for you.

(Granted, it's been over 20 years since I've been in - but you can't be the only guy in quarters dieting.)
