View Full Version : Any Plumbers In the House?

K new house 1 year old now... 3 bathrooms.... #2 on the main floor. #1 in the basement. All work well accept for the pressure in the main hallway bathroom "shower". Master bedroom shower works amazing/good hard pressure....

Plumber who did the house came over yesterday. Takes the head off and pulls out a piece a concrete behind the shower head. K thinking this would solve the problem....says this happens when they constructing new houses. Note: I never did see him pull the piece out.... he could of very well put it there.
Showered this A.M and No difference...same shitty pressure...called them back and said well if stuff was bl owned up through the pipes like pieces of draw wall or concrete...well obviously he probably should of just put a new shower head on because there can be smaller pieces of drywall stuck in the shower head. He agreed-ed.

Either way, my question is, if thats not the issue, what can be? and does all the showers in the house should they not be consistent pressure? Do I have leg to stand on? etc

As long as all piping is of the same size, then all pressure should be the same throughout for the most part....Take the head off, let water flow until clear, get new head or disassemble old one and clean, put back together, should be good...

Hey Mr. Ontario.

The water pressure does not necessarly mean that all showers sinks. etc. should be the same. Depends on pipping set-up.

1. You could need a new water pump.

2. Is this just a recent problem? Chances are there is something stuck in the drain.

Yes, we know your girlfriend is hot. And yes, we know you are getting it on 2-3x a night. Just make sure you are throwing your condoms out and not flushing them down the drain.

It's hard to asses your situation without seeing what's really going on. I say call the plumber back and tell him your situation. If he can't fix it, I suggest you demand your money back and call someone else.

1 not water pump....Or all showers, sinks would suffer.....
2. its not a drain problem, has nothing to do with water pressure...

3 dont quit your day job!!!:p

What he said....Also you can take the flow restrictor out of the shower head for better flow.

pulled a piece of contrete out of you water pipe??, sounds kinda suspicious! , you wouldn`t have good pressure in that shower since the house was new! restrictor would be the first thing, you can also take a head off one of your other showers and try that one.

Mr.O roll up your sleeves, and do it yourself. there's settings in inside the cold/hot valve. you can play with those and see if more pressure. also take your shower head off and see how much pressure there is.

This is what I'd suggest. And some newer valves are "water saving" that's why there's less water pressure. They have a little plastic thing(usually white) inside that regulates the flow and if you remove it it will fix the problem. What I'd do is remove the handle/plate, shut off the integral stops(to stop the water) on each side of the valve and remove the cartridge to see if it's a watersaver or see if the catridge is damaged. Some guys solder up the valves without taking the cartridge out and that can melt/fawk it up and restrict flow. It could also be that the pipes are undersized(like piping in two back to back bathrooms on the same 1/2 inch lines and the shower being the last thing tied in) as it happens all the time. Good luck "O"

lol... Imagine I worked for you.... You would fire me the very first day on the job.... or wait.. I wouldn't pass my interview. :flagC

I've only done small plumming work around the house. Small rennos, repairs.. Etc. My uncle showed me a few things.. But obviously, not enough..

Mr O. hope you fixed the problem.

Iron Will, do you have to be a liscenced plummer to get pipes like those? :yeah

The hot water tank in the basement is not far off from the two bathrooms/showers from upstairs.
Note: house is under warranty....so it's not costing me anything to have them come in. The second plumber was wayyy better then the first.. The first guy did not want to problem solve.
The second guy did take out the water saver piece... I did find a tad better, but not to my satisfaction. Until he mentioned having a new shower head in his truck that just came out and is 10x better, that would cost me $20.00... as obviously the shower head that was in there was builder quality- cheap. So the new one made a huge difference.

so in the end sure the concrete piece or however got it there was not suppose to be there, but did not resolve the issue the first time...and the first plumber should have just taken the time and just switched it with a new one from the start.
Either way I know which guy to request again if I have any issues.

If you have hopelessly lousy water pressure get yourself a shower head from takeashower.com. These are designed specifically for low pressure and are truly unbelievable. They really do work.
