DVD-r is a disc not a format, but yes you can convert DIVX to Mpeg 2 which is the format DVD's are in. Here is a website that can tell you how to do it:

Hope that helps!

What software do I need to do this?

I just downloaded I Am Legend from piratebay and it was a DvD rip.
Not really sure what that means but it had dvix at the beginning of it and it wont burn.
Then I downloaded the DVDR version and its fine.
The DVDR is 4.44 GB and the Dvix is 777MB. Whats the reason for this?

divx is basically an encoding format. When you download a divx they're generally 700mb or so and in the .avi format. So you play them through windows media player. DVDR version is normally dvd sized and is a modified copy of the actual dvd, so you download it and burn it right onto a dvd.

So all I need is the conversion software?

Is this software free?

You're better off buring the files to a disc and watching them in the dvix format (if you have a dvix/avi playing machine). Otherwise the quality is crap once you remove all compression and convert it to mpeg2...similar comparison is like converting an mp3 to .wav...you will notice all sorts of drop outs etc.

There is a way to do it, google avi to mpeg2 and you will find lots of conversion software out there. However note that the process takes a long time (couple of hours). There are two steps needed. You need to first convert from avi (divx) to mpeg2 and then you need to "author" the file before burning it to dvd-r media.

I used to use Cucusoft's avi to mpeg converter and then I used Cucusoft mpeg authoring (to create the individual vob files), but in the end the end, the quality was shit.

Now if I am downloading movies, I just look for the dvd-r files instead of getting the divx versions. Most dvd players on the market today play divx movies anyways.

Hope this helps.

uTorrent is great.

Divx is compressed and how it's encodded.
Best fun thing if you like burning things is to download a bunch of Divx's onto a DVD that can play DivX files. a lot of the 'cheapie' brands do this so stop paying a billion dollars for a brand name dvd player that can't play shit and is locked to specific regions.

So then on 1 dvd you'll have easily 6-8 movies

ced - do you think Utorrent is better than Azureus?

I prefer azureus myself.. I get faster speeds with azureus on my throttled rogers internet connection :s

And the best dvd players for playing divx movies are the walmart ones for $40. The cheap dvd players are normally just pc dvd drives in an external case made to hook to a tv. Because of this they do an incredible job playing divx. My $400 panasonic dvd player won't even make the attempt to play them :) You can also use a media center extender

100%
a lot lighter on the computer too. more customizability. even for the average computer knowledge person i'd recommend it over any other clients i've used before.

I'm not even on any juice and I want to kill mutherfvckers!!

I downloaded a trial ConvertXtoDVD, I converted an "aXXo" movie and it worked great with the watermark.
I bought the key for like $35, tried it on the same movie and it worked. Now I have downloaded many different dvd.rips, many from aXXo and I can play them on my CPU but cant burn them for the life of me!
