Hey guys,
Looking for your experiences with accutane; did it work quickly, did your skin really flake, did it work for everyone or is it hit/miss? Thanks.

Depends if ur taking pharmacy grade/what protocol ur on/everyone reacts differently. Acne is in my genes, my dad had it til he was in his early 30s. So naturally i got acne when i hit puberty (around 14 or so, cant remember). Doc put me on around 17 and put me on a very heavy dosage. I got all the typical sides, skin was very sensitive to warm water, sun, flaky on occasion, very dry. But it worked like a charm, hadnt gotten a break out til i was 24 and did my first cycle.

People have gotten very good results while using very low dosages while on. At such low dosages, the sides are almost non existent. There are a couple good threads on accutane, just search for em.

I'm taking accutane right now (legit through doc) for chest and shoulder acne - I'm writing a detailed log, which I'll post when I'm done in June.

Doc is starting me at 40/d then up to 80 after the second month. I'm 1.5 months in now. First month I was very fatigued - that's pretty much gone now, but my back aches still. Some flaking skin on my chin, which is annoying. Lips and eyes dry. Feeling dehydrated a lot, so drinking lots of water. All the usual sides, no vision issues or anything like that.

I had my first blood work at the end of month one, but no major issues (haven't actually seen the results yet, but they would have called me if something was really bad). Accutane is hard on the liver, and blood lipids. I would not recommend any HRT because of the cholesterol effects and especially orals because they tend to hit the liver hard too. Limit alcohol (I'm keeping it to 1-2 drinks per WEEK). And, don't take anything you might find at an all night dance party - dehydration/liver.

Results so far: very little acne on shoulders, however chest has become worse. From what I've read accutane can make acne worse for some people in the first couple of months, and almost always improves thereafter. I hope it's true.

Thanks guys. Been on it for 20 days and the acne has actually gotten worse and the other people I remember being on it had quick results and very dramatic so I was scared maybe I'm one of the few that it will not work on...hopefully it will get better soon....and its a legit prescription.

I ran 40mg/day for 3 months, then a month off followed by another 3 months at 40mg/day and I only ever get breakouts when coming off cycle.

If you start accutane make sure you buy ALOT of chapstick, the medicated stuff works best the other stuff I found makes it worse. Make sure you really pay attention to your moods and feelings since accutane has been linked to depression oh and dont get pregnant while taking.

in my opinion its the only thing that really works for REAL acne. as someone mentioned there are a couple good threads (or used to be on nexus). i used it as a teen at the typical 80mg dose and it worked very well. however i have permanently dry skin and lips 10 years later which is apparently not particularly rare.

i would really suggest a LOW LOW dose. from what ive read the protocol in other countries (europe) is to use a much lower dose for longer. i will still take like 10mg (prescription) 1-2x a week if i start having issues and there are no sides at these doses

You're only 20 days in mate, it usually flares up before you start to see anything. Give it a couple months. You'll be extremely happy with the results. I cant remember exactly how long i was on it for, i think 3 or 4 months.

bro, i've had bad acne for years ... great, big postules with their own postal codes and everything. ive taken all the acne drugs, tetracyclines, topicals, proactiv etc. i actually found sun to be the most effective thing.

last year i broke out BAAAAD during my second cycle. Face, back, shoulders, and chest were an absolute mess.

i started on the accutane maybe 6 months ago ... its been unbelievable. face and skin are clear like they've never been before. i get the same sides as everyone else. and i also can't wear any jewellery ... if i wear a ring my skin flares up all nasty ... and ive got a couple strange patches of dry skin at places. but when i moisturize it gets handled.

just be patient. this shit works.

if you are prone to bad breakouts, this stuff will work but if you're like me and get break outs when on or related to a cycle, i found that a super low dose of once or twice per week is enough prevention to keep away any bad acne

Bingo, many pp have had success with this and its definitely something I'm trying in the future.

It works for normal acne i found but on the huge deep suckers i needed to get a steriod shot for them, depo medral (sp) worked great!!
Oh and dont drink while on accutane, i thought i still could boy was i wrong 4 beers hit me like 30 would!!!
I'll never use accutane again though, i didnt care for any of the sides. try tanning beds if your not already on accutane if you are stay far away from them..

Accutane was a godsend for me.
Anyone using it you need to give it time though. 6 months is a normal course at 40 mg a day. And yes it can get worse before it gets better.
And get pharm grade, get a perscription. Most doctors won't have a problem giving it to you as long as you get blood tests done.

If your doctor tries to give you anything higher the. 60 mg a day say you don't want that much. Trust me. 40 is plenty and will keep the sides to a minimum.
