Hey guys, I'm considering getting my certification for personal training. I was just wondering who has it and which one they have/would prefer to have? I've heard Can-Fit-Pro is a very good one to have, I don't care about prices. I won't pay over a grand for it but I'll be willing to go as high as 6-700.

Can-Fit-Pro is run by goodlife so if you want to work for them then its good but when i owned my gym i liked ACE and ISSA trainers more.

What's the differences ? Why did you prefer that ?

Where i lived there were all kinds of goofballs taking and passing that certification that it lost all meaning. I couldn't tell you how many people i knew personally who had no idea what they were talking about.
All the people who had the other certs were knowledgeable. This is just my experience.
I'm not saying that if you have Can-Fit-Pro you don't know anything though.

i did can-fit-pro and I can tell you that half the stuff you learn is retarded, but the anatomy part is very useful.

You have to understand that they they you like you would be training 50 years old non-athletic people.

How do you go about getting these Certs?

Also, I hope this isn't hijacking, but if you're working for yourself, what do you have to do to get insurance?

Last thing any trainer needs is someone sueing your cause they hurt there back and can't go to work.

Thanks.

No sweat about the hijack bud, it's also useful information to me.

So if I was aiming to be training people of any ages, what certification should I look towards ?

Can fit pro is the (low) standard of the industry in Canada

CPTN is a good certification to start your career as a PT
http://www.cptn.com/Certification/certification.htm

ACE is quite good in terms of teaching you scope of practice and professional standards, unfortunately they didn't have a practicum when I took it 9 years ago

There are more out there it really depends on what you are looking for, how good you wanna be, etc

Well I only want it as a secondary career. I'd like to have a good reputation and be an excellent trainer.

CSCS is the only one I'd consider.

CanFit is good enough for a starter side career dealy, as DK said, I also know a few ppl with it that do not deserve to be giving any info whats so ever :)

I have a buddy who has his CanFitPro Cert. And he says the only thing he learned from them was never to hire a CanFitPro trainer.

ya if you wanna work with any sports teams a CSCS is pretty much mandatory... imo its the most prestigious but you need a university degree to qualify for the exam

LMAO!!!

......theres a girl at one of the gyms I frequent who worked there as a "front desk girl" lol, anyways I'd asked her a couple times why she dont get in there and work out, her reply to me was " I don't even know what a DB looks like" 4 mths later she is a Can Fit Pro graduate...TRUE STORY! :tu
