Buying A New Fireplace

Our primary source of heat is our fireplace so now it needs to be replaced after 10+ years. I source green wood from various people, then I cut it down and transfer it myself. I have a wood pile/work area at the edge of my yard that has about 65 cord. At the start of winter I had almost 110 cord.

This is the fireplace that we're buying, big panoramic door for full viewing, autoclean doors and 8 hr burn time. My gf wants to frame straight up from the fireplace around the chimney to the ceiling(about 16 ft) and cover in rock to finish it off.

I got mad at Ultramar and closed my account. Too much BS, they came and inspected my furnace(3 yrs old) said it was unfit and that they couldnt deliver oil to us until we fixed it. I told them I was going to burn wood anyway. The next week the delivered oil after they said they couldnt

Have you thought about propane? I burn wood as my main source of heat and it gets pricey to buy and a huge amount of work to do it yourself. The propane is nice because there is no mess.

Propane is for trailer trash, IMO. I'm not saying that you are trailer trash, but most trailers use this as their source of heat.
I dont mind the work, in the summer I work crazy hours anyway.

One of my best buddies has propane and I bug him too. lol

There is a aroma you get from a real wood fire that can't be beat. The new propane fireplaces look far more realistic. Another issue is a lot of insurance companies are not insuring homes with wood fireplaces anymore or at least adding a hefty premium.
