Anyone know much about these...

Ive been thinking about grabbing once ever since they won the war. I also just bought a new tv so im dying to enjoy it in all of its glory.

I have found both a sony (bp300) and a samsung (1200) model for sale locally through the classifieds. Both brand new in the box for significantly cheaper than buying from a store (1/2 price basically).

They are both obviously a great deal, but a lot of what i have read has said that the current blu ray players all have some sort of issues, be it really slow load times (sony) to freezing (both) to inability to play certain discs (samsung). Im considering waiting a while until they come out with a more solid player but at these prices im not sure.

Anyone have one? opinions on your model? any issues?

thanks

When I was buying my TV last month the sales guy told me that they are upgrading the blu-ray discs in the summer and the new ones won't be able to play on the old players. PS3 is the only one that can because its software is upgradeable. How much truth to this there is I don't know. I can't seem to find any info on the net. Might wanna ask your local sales guy about that.

Another thing if you're debating palyers is that stand alone players have a dedicated chip for the blu-ray unlike the PS3. Some claim it looks better then the PS3, but I have a PS3 running on a 1080p plasma and it looks pretty damn good. Only shitty thing is the PS3 didn't come with a remote control.

Overall, for the value I'd go with the PS3.You not only get a good blu-ray player, but a game console and media storage.

ps3 is in the top 3 players out and half the price, and will play all sound formats out within the next 6 months. At this time its only missing one i believe and that format is not very common on blu rays to begin with.
Most blu rays are upgradeable via either usb or ethernet

just grab a ps3...plus they do firmware updates...the ps3 never use to play divx but with a update and presto it does...its worth the $$ i think
