My new trainer friend has me on a 4 day split system but he likes doing supersets of everything to make it a cardio workout as well. It's tough as hell, he pushes hard, and gives you enough time in between for some water intake, but I can't tell you the pain I'm in now! It's an awesome workout regime he has. I have muscles sore I never knew I had. He uses very few machines if any. It's all with free weights. I'm impressed so far, it should be a great summer!

Not so super for me dude. Unless you want to shock the muscle group by doing 2 exercises for the same muscle group, it will do so for a short while. But in the end all I think it`s doing is increasing the TUT, which most people cheat themselves out of and is why it works for them.

Like Ritch, I'm not a huge super-set type of guy. I much prefer drop sets, in three main circumstances:

Dumb-bells: I like to do drop-sets a lot... especially on shoulder and bicep work. Works great when you're trying to do heavy curls and raises and crapping out early. It will permit you to get to absolute failure with better form as well.

Cable Work: One thing that is popular around my parts is to say... do some Rope Pushdowns. Start with a medium-intensity work weight and do a low number 5-7. Then move the pin up once and do another 5-7. Then move the pin up once and do another 5-7. Then move the pin up once and do another 5-7. By the time you get below 30lbs, your arms will be mush, but if you do it from the right starting point, you'll go just short of absolute failure and get an amazing pump out of it.

Thirdly, abdominal work. If you're doing something with a dumbbell or plate, just drop it and keep going. I do this on things like sit-ups, planks, and oblique work.

If I'm bulking I train heavy with 2 or 3 minutes between sets. If I'm cutting I'll use drop sets. I never found supersets to be particularly effective for bodybuilding, just taxing.

I only use them for arms, as I find it gives an insane pump when alternating bi's and tri's.

The rest of the time I stick to pyramid sets, drop sets, and rest-pause.
