If that's her in your avatar I would share anything!!!
It's a great ant-oxident and helps clear free readicals and I'm certain it doesn't have any gender specific qualities.

The answer is yes. R-ALA is fantastic stuff. It has a large array of health benefits, for men as well as women.

btw, AOR is a great supplement company. I only use them and Life Extension Foundation products. They are both a little expensive, but sell the highest quality pharmaceutical grade supps in the world.

R-ALA degrades rapidly on being exposed to oxygen so ALA alone is virutually useless if it's not with the R isomer. R-ALA is useless in protein/creatine powders (Muscletech) since it's exposed to oxygen.
To combat this supplement companies made; Air tight capsules made in a nitrogen enviroment (expensive) or K R-ALA, attaching a potassium molecule to help it survive however, and I forget the reference but it didn't work.

NaRALA, a version of R-ALA with a sodium molecule attached does help it survive in oxygen.

I found this out a little while back and that's all I use now for liver protection, mimice insulin with my pwo drink and antioxident. It's another supp I by from Superior in buld powder.

Inregards to R form alpha lipoic acid you should look into the formual if it is yin or yang make it an important issue based on the times you take the product

Most products of ALA have other ingredients changing its effect. I trust the poliquin line and the design for health version. Yang is to wake up and Yin is to clam down and sleep. Here is the break down of the Design for Health and Poliquin versions

One is to be used in the morning (Yang), and the other one in the evening (Yin).
Yang R-ALA
This morning supplement contains:
• Acetyl-L-Carnitine Propionate 500 mg
• R-Lipoic Acid 100 mg
• Benfotiamine 25 mg
• Biotin 4 mg
The Acetyl-L-Carnitine (ALCAR) gives it its Yang property by providing immediate heightened energy. Being the ester form of carnitine, acetyl-L-carnitine readily crosses the blood-brain barrier.
Nutrition researchers believe that ALC improves cognition by enhancing the activity of acetylcholine and/or increasing neuronal metabolism. There is a good chance that ALC might increase dopamine activity in the part of the brain where dopamine is produced. It has also been documented that ALC enhances cerebro- and cardiovascular blood flow, which will potentiate any other pre-workout nutraceuticals that I usually recommend.
An additional benefit of acetyl-l-carnitine is that, like the branched chain amino acids, it can prevent the decrease of plasma testosterone associated with high training loads. It will also likely have a positive effect on your endogenous testosterone.
Benfotiamine is basically allithiamine, a naturally occurring lipophilic form of thiamin (vitamin B1). Benfotiamine's main advantage is its ability to cross cell membranes effectively. This means that bioavailability over conventional thiamin supplements, thiamin pyrophosphate, and other allithiamines is superior. Benfotiamine inhibits glycation, which in layman’s terms is a caramelization of tissues.
The Biotin works synergistically with the ALCAR to boost dopamine levels, and it is a team player in insuring that the enzymes that metabolize nutrients are in optimal supply.
For most individuals, three capsules with the morning meal produce a noticeable effect on drive. Some may need a higher dose.
Yin R-ALA
This evening supplement uses taurine, which has a calming effect on the nervous system. Hence, it has Yin properties.
Along with GABA, taurine is recognized to be a major inhibitory neurotransmitter, specifically acting as a modulator of GABAnergic function. Increasing your taurine intake increases expression of glutamic acid decarboxylase, the enzyme responsible for GABA synthesis. Taurine has also the ability to improve insulin sensitivity, thus promoting faster rebuilding of your glycogen stores, and improved insulin sensitivity.
Our Stabilized R-Lipoic Acid is in the form of Sodium- R-Lipoate, the newest and by far most stable and effective version of R-Lipoic Acid available anywhere.
Binding it to sodium prevents it from polymerizing which occurs easily due to its hygroscopic nature. Thus stable, non-hygroscopic, non-polymeric potassium salt form of R-Lipoic Acid does not require any special handling or refrigeration.

So...what does it do exactly?
