So I have been wearing the same shoes to the gym for the past ten years, I squat and deadlift in socks, and use the gym shoes only for the gym...its time I buy a new pair, any recommendations on good all around weightlifting footwear? I've been told flat (no heal) is good.
On a side note I have started playing two on two basketball once a week for some aerobic exercise, I ended up yesterday with the skin rubbed of both of my small toes, hence I need some proper footwear to play court sports as well, any recommendations?
i use converse low top for leg day
saucony RIDE at other times... super comfortable shoe...they didnt have it in stock tho so i went with Jazz...still comfortable, but the RIDE was like walking on air!

Those are only good for olympic style weight lifting and some movements assoicated with that style of lifting. For body building you need something with a flat sole... Addidas Samabas or any other indoor soccer shoe would be a better choice.
I tore my hamstring attempting a max deadlift in olympic weightlifting shoes a few years back.

I squat and deadlift in my blue suede shoes 3 times a week, so I'm afraid I'm gonna have to say nope to you on this one.

You're not lifting enough... What do you deadlift?
And he wants an all around gym shoe not a specialized weightlifting shoe... Those shes arent the greatest for alot of machine work (hack squats, leg press etc).
BTW i got the sme pair of blue sweade shoes... I just dont think they're a good ALL AROUND gym shoe.

I squat 405 and deadlift 435 and they are just fine for calf, hacks and leg press. My previous shoes, chucks, are arguably better for deads but after a few weeks you get used to deadlifting with a bit of a heel. If I got a lifting advantage from barefoot over them I'd deadllift barefoot but either way I'm pulling the same amount.
While they are no darn good for basketball, I'm too short to reach the net.
They do shine in the squat rack for front/back squats and gm's having a solid heel make calf work a heck of a lot more effective. I keep a pair of new balance sneakers in my gear bag for when I want squishy shoes on the treadmill.

If you are moving any serious weight you'll want to avoid running shoes...not good for the knees or the spine. You need something with a solid sole with good stability and support....I prefer a decent boot like Dickies with a soft toe.
