I'm kinda freaking out here.... was in the middle of my workout, doing curls. Lifting the same weight I have been for a few workouts now, but tonight's overall workout has been shit.. strength has been down on all lifts.

After my second set of curls, I felt my right bicep and there's a dent or dip on the outer side, somewhere in the middle, and if I hold my arm in a 45 or so degree angle and flex, I can feel a ridge length-wise down my whole bicep.

When you tear a bicep, can you feel it? Does it hurt right after or later on or at all? Are there variations in severity of tears?

Someone please tell me I didn't just tear my ****ing bicep....

You probably have a micro tear. No big deal. A full tear and you wouldn't be typing right now and a bad tear would have you in much pain. That said, a micro tear can result in a severe one if you don't rest it. If you have no bruising then you are fine.

Alright, thanks man. I've got ice on it right now... I guess I'll wait and see if it bruises, that will tell me if it's torn or not?

I always have to go and do something stupid right when I'm making great progress. This time I kept hearing in the back of my mind slow, concentrated movements because of the bicep thread... so I thought, ok I'll try it.. except I was still working with the same heavy ass weight. Brilliant.

Bruising alone won't tell you if you have torn it but if it's a second degree tear it will bruise and will be very sore. You wouldn't likley be able to either flex it fully or extend it without pain. If it is a micro tear it probably won't bruise but will be sore. It's actually a strained bicep. A third degree tear is where the muscle belly tears off of the bone and then you are ****ed to hell. You most likely have a strain.

Yep probably a strain or bruise. It's painful, it's strenuous, but you'll get through it. I've done it several times when I slack and pack on the weight for my biceps. I once had both arms unable to bend/extend for 3 days. I'll tell you... eating 4000 calories with no hands was a challenge when you can't get the spoon to your mouth without a lot of work.

okey doke... paranoia could just be getting the better of me, it's been known to happen before. the whole shape of my bicep just didn't feel right.. can't explain it other than something was just off. hopefully it's nothing and i'll be fine. i wouldn't mind having a close call for once, i'm sick of injuring myself.

Having 2 torn biceps, I can tell you that the one that is partially torn hurt like a bitch, while the one torn off completely didnt hurt at all...

Keep an eye on it and check it for shortening... you dont want it looking like this...

christ no.... im assuming that required surgery? damn that would suck.

so far there's no pain or bruising. just the strange ridge and indent. not really sure wtf is up with it.

Unfortunately, when its torn from the top, they cant do anything about it... they would have to dig through all the muscle tissue to reattach it and its apparently too much of a pain in the ass to make me look normal again...

Mine was'nt as bad as yours BDH.But i was bruised from my shoulder to my wrist.I have a bit of a hollow at the top.I have heard that syntherol could help to make it normal again. What are your thoughts?

Did you hear/feel any "POPPING" sounds at any point during the set in question? If not then its s strain of sorts rather then a tare... I have torn my hammy, bicep, tricp and lat and all of them I felt/heard a popping sounds when they were taring... The more "pops" the more serious it was too.

It may be a partial tear which is sometimes worse then a complete avulsion. Even it it was a complete avulsion you would still be able to function somewhat normallu ie typing would not be a problem. You also dont always get hemmorhaging with a torn bicep it all depends on the location and severity. I've torn both biceps one completely off the bone full avulsion the other partial. I would strongly advise you to get an ultrasound ASAP...the longer you wait with a bicep tear the less likely it can be repaired due to scarring over of the tendon.

Unfortunately, that's not an option.

It seems to be ok. There still isn't any pain or bruising. I'm not entirely sure what's up with it, if it's just my paranoia or if there really is something going on with it, but I think it might just be ok afterall. I'm still going to take it easy for a bit just to make sure though.

Does a tear like that hamper your future workouts? Can you curl the same weight you had before or is it always going to lag?

There are two types of bicep tendon tears...proximal (at the shoulder insertion point) and distal (atthe elbow insertion point). Both types of tears are repairable with surgery and would usually be done on younger active patients. The proximal tear sometime would not be repaired in an older patient because there are actually two insertion points hence the term Bi-ceps...Bi meaning two and normally only one is torn. The distal location only has one insertion point.
If the tendon is not repaired strength will be affected especially in a distal tear.

Every time I've injured my biceps, it's been the distal insertion point. It's not a tear, but it really swells in size. I'm sure different exercises will trigger different rips though, which probably explains my I've never had proximal issues at all.

Well I feel pretty silly.

First of all, that ridge I was referring to is actually the line where the major vein runs through. I never noticed the ridge before, but I guess as my muscles developed more in size and shape, it's become more pronounced.

The other issue where I thought there was a dip, is actually uneven muscle development. It's similar on both sides now, where just the left used to be like this, now the right is as well. The top portion of the bicep kind of peaks outwards... the whole bicep on each arm is now kinda shaped like a lightbulb.. where the lower head is smaller/narrower and the upper head is taller/wider.

I don't actually like the way this looks at all. Any tips to even them out I'd greatly appreciate it.

Also, I can't seem to get any height or peak. When I flex my biceps, they tend to widen and go inside/down towards my armpits.. can't get any peak from them.

Dangit, I do em both!

It's only like this when they're pumped up... cold, shape is fine. Meh, I'm just gonna chalk it up to a temporary genetic abnormality... lol.
