Time has been lacking lately and I'm thinking about setting up a small home gym. Anyone use any of the bowflex stuff? Any suggestions on some good equipment?

Cage, adjustable bench, Oly bar, heavy duty rubber mats, bumper and steel plates, Locking collars, adjustable olympic dumbells, dip/chin station.
That's what I would do. Then just pick up more pieces as you go along.

What they said. Don't bother with a bowflex - for the same money you can have a much better setup. Unless space is a factor for you
Agree with all of the above. Some of those movements with the bowflex are just going through the motions.Limited ones at that.My daughter and son-in-law have one.

Thanks for the feedback guys. Space is a huge factor. I have a room that's maybe 10 by 10 that will be dedicated for equipment. I checked out the bowflex today and not a fan of the movement. I also saw this one...felt pretty good actually...anyone heard/use it?

Cage + good bench is your best bet.

yes...
i recently sold mine....just ran out of room for it, wife wanted to finish the basement..so i sold a large Body Solid home gym (2 stacks), got a smaller Lamar unit...sold my cage..and kept my smith....i rarely use it...i still prefer the gym.

I keep watching kijiji for a rack. My freespotter is a pretty good rack replacement for most things but a good rack is so versatile that it's hard to live without.

rack and adjustable bench. That link you posted for the machine just looks like a piece of crap. I have yet to try one that feels right.

Even the shittiest gym would be better than these. I bought one quite awhile back and all the motions were awkward. Ended up going to a small community center to work out and the universal collected dust.

I would have said the same thing before I started looking recently. I was amazed at the equipment out there now made for home use. The link I posted was a machine I tried that actually felt 'good' or gym like (I will agree that the picture makes it look cheap but it's a sturdy piece of equipment) It's not ideal but will fit the space I have available and is very wife friendly...

How about that? If I had a grand to spend I would definitely pick it up over a univeral gym

I don't mind the plate loaded hammerstrength machines but the space and money would be crushing. A rack fits in a nice tight space.

I like a smith machine and a dip rack with a pull up bar

Apparently Black Iron makes magnetic dumbbells for small spaces. Check out their website to see if that is what suits you.
