Keg is fast food steak. If you've ever been to a REAL steakhouse then you'll cry if you have to eat Keg steak again. NO comparison.
but 40% is worthwhile for sure!

The Keg blows. If you want a better meal for the same price range goto Baton Rouge.
EDIT: The only keg worth going to is the keg mansion in Toronto.

Sounds like it could be a decent job, although lunch shifts must be kinda shit.

there are no lunch shifts. its dinner only.

I'm pretty sure I can find 100 better steak houses in alberta but in Winnipeg it's a decent steak for the dollar. A good steak dinner is retarded expensive in this town. I just can't justify 3-400 for a steak dinner for 2.
Between my barbeque and my butcher I can beat any restaurant in town.

Has anyone noticed now at Baton Rouge how rediculously fast the food arrives now? Seriously, last 2 times I went by the time I went to take a piss, wash my hands, hit a few poses, when I got back to my seat, the food was already there. And the portions are smaller, the fries are like 1/3 to 1/2 less than before.

Chris Ruth's steakhouse
I hated that place. I make a better Costco steak on the barbecue than them and the Greek waiter had terrible B.O. and nose hair to his lip. Luckily I did not pay for my $90 steak. It was on the CIBC's tab. ****ing rip off.

ruth chris's steakhouse to date has made me the finest steak, along with the best service, best wine list, and best side dishes.
2 people, depending on the bottle of wine will be $300 ish
The keg will give a great meal for two for about $100. And no complaints on the food, but it is a different league from an actual steakhouse.
I would take the Keg over any other restaurant in edmonton, when factoring bang for the buck
Someone previously compared the keg to a fast food steak restaurant??? thats a joke. Your keg must suck ass where ever you are from. To me, ordering a steak at boston pizza would be a fast food restaurant streak

A real steakhouse:
Mortons (Chicago for the original but all locations are excellent)
Harbour 60 (Toronto)
Tom Jones (Toronto)
Sparks (NY)
Peter Luger (NY)
Ruth's Chris (many locations)
I've eaten at every one of these and consider these REAL steakhouses. Hell, even Hy's is better than the keg.
Keg is fast food steak compared to a REAL steakhouse.

Not me. I'm paying for a night out of fun and entertainment. If I want to reduce my costs then I'll stay home.
But ya, I agree it can seem a bit much for them to price that high. However, booze is where they make their money. It's not on the food.

I have eaten at some of the best steak places in North America...
Daniels in Seattle
El Gaucho in Seattle
Manny's in Minneapolis
Having said this, I can honestly say that the Keg offers the best 'bang for the buck' as far as an economical cut of decent beef goes... If someone else is paying, I don't mind spending $200 on a meal... if it's my money, I am happy with the Keg!
Im willing to be some of you "connoisseur's" wouldnt be able to taste the difference if you were blindfolded. andre said it, and it is great bang for your buck and tastes pretty damn good.
i have also eaten at many of these places listed and their steaks are great too, but i wont pretend like i can taste the difference between one and the other when prepared by someone who knows what they are doing.

The Keg does make good steaks. Baton Rouge doesn't compare IMO. As for not tasting the difference between The Keg and Harbour Sixty/Morton's/Ruth's, you definitely can. Not only is the meat at these places fresh (The Keg gets there's frozen from http://www.macgregors.com/ - at least they did a couple of years ago), they also cook it differently.
My personal fave is Morton's. I'm not the biggest Ruth's fan. Harbour Sixty is nice. The Octagon is decent, but the best thing about that place is the caesar salad! I love restaurants that do that up tableside. :D
If I'm paying, 9/10 I'm going to The Keg though. I've never had a bad meal there. On the company's dime, Morton's. :D
^^ i have news for you. almost all meat is frozen at one point or another unless the place is buying their meat from a small time butcher. most commercial beef in canada comes from a company called Cargill Meats out of AB and ALL of their trailers are sent frozen. I know this because I used to arrange their delivery appointments and if any of the reefers broke on those trailers $300k worth of meat would go bad if I couldnt arrange a faster delivery or a trailer swing on a frozen dock.
ALMOST ALL MEAT IS FROZEN despite what most people think.

Maybe so! But you CAN taste the difference at the high end steakhouses. Trust me...I'm not at all slamming The Keg. I think to call it fast food for steaks is a bit of a stretch. It's VERY good value. :D
I agree. I didnt think you were slamming them but soooooo many people have this misconception of "fresh" steak. Its a little ridiculous. You cant keep meat fresh on a trailer that is not frozen. Unless the restaurant orders from a local butcher, or they are slaughtering their own cattle out back they are ordering frozen meat. Thats truth.

Most high-end restaurants will order their steaks directly from a local butcher.
North 44, Auberge Du Pomme, Canoe, et al is all local butchers. I know this for a fact.
I won't speak to places like Ruth's Chris, Mortons, etc because they are a chain but I suspect they, too, order from locals.

Dry aged, local cuts of carefully selected beef are not something you are going to get at a Keg or any other chain restauraunt. Chains prefer consistency over excellence.
Maybe I'm cheap, but I just won't pay the same price for one dinner (for two) for what I could buy half a cow for. (shrug)

my bud always orders the "off the menu" Keg "Omega" from the Keg.. its like a 32 oz prime rib....
