Is it cheaper to buy the cartons of egg whites, or simply separate whole eggs? For some reason when it says X amount of ml=X egg whites, I don't believe that it works out. Perhaps its equivalent to X number of small egg whites?? Any input on these two factors?

I use cartons. $2 for 500 ml at Walmart. Even if you got a little more separating whole eggs, how much price difference could there possibly be?

This is roughly what I pay for 1.5L about 5 bucks at costco. Its a waste though unless you actually use the yolks. I buy both and just use a full egg in pro/fat meals and just add in extra whites

Just to clarify 1.5L egg whites = 3 x 500mg cartons at costco and is just under $5. I haven't been able to find anything cheaper than that.

Also...each carton is 60g protein if that helps anyone.

I've been buying the omega 3 eggs by the carton and the whites in the box. Fridge is already full enough with eggs every week. Costco was the best i've found for price as well but I don't hit costco every time I shop so it's kind of hit and miss.

Superstore here 500 mls for 1.89......equals 16 egg whites, considerably cheaper than crack and drink cartons of full eggs....

I crunched the numbers and Costco's prices for egg whites vs whole eggs is pennies apart. So each week I buy both, 2 1/2 dozen eggs and 2 packs of (3 x 500ml) of egg whites

My wife and I go through alot of costco egg whites. I wish they'd come in larger containers. For us, it's costco all the way for cheapest. Nobody can touch them.

For those of you buying whole eggs from Costco, do they sell them in huge quantities? In the States, they have 15 dozen boxes for under $20. I'd like access to that sort of supply this summer when I'm not in an all-you-can-eat cafeteria all day!

A little tid-bit on raw egg whites by Mountaindog:

You can definitely get biotin deficiency from eating raw egg whites my friend. There is a glycoprotein called avidan in the egg white that latches on to the biotin so your body can't absorb it. That is why cooking the whites are good if you are not eating the yolk. I have never heard of this occuring in someone who ate the yolk with white though. The raw whites also contain trypsin inhibitors which make it harder for your body to digest protein...

I'm pretty sure the carton'd eggwhites are pasteurized and do not pose those same risks. Doesn't that only apply if you're cracking raw eggs and seperating out the yolk to eat the white?
