L-glutamine seems to be a very controversial supplement, however, after speaking with a gastrointestinal surgeon the other day I was told that l-glutamine is a great supplement to use with regards to digestion, maintains gut health, and especially intestinal rehab, repair, and healing...with it's effects dramatically enhanced when taken on an empty stomach.
With that said, this might bring a new light on how we view this supplement. Is it possible that supplementing with it will enhance absorption of other supplements and food since it improves the intestinal lining and it's functional abilities?
Throwing it out there...I'm not claiming anything, simply reiterating what I was told by the leading gastrointestinal surgeon in my city.
Take it for what you will.

Interesting, i've always been a big fan of glutamine, definitely recover alot quicker when using.
It is mixed with my BCAA's along with B6.
Can't say I've noticed anything , but then again I've never had any stomach issue's.

i don't know really if it "helps" with stomach issues... but ... after 10 years of being vegetarian , then eating chicken and fish for a year, I started eating BEEF this september and was having a HARD time processing it.. stomach cramps, constipation, gas... all very sexy... My trainer started me on glutamine (NOT for stomach problems... totally for muscle recovery as i DO overtrain) and around the same time the glutamine was added, the meat started digesting better.
Not scientific enough to prove ANYTHING... just in hindsight, kinda interesting... don'tcha think?
(granted, the glutamine was added aprox 3 weeks after I had been eating beef, maybe my system adjusted on its own)
I just think it tastes bad!

TS, you don't happen to offer glutamine as one of your samples, do you? My mother has stomach issues, and if this does indeed help, it could prove to be very beneficial to her. LMK, thanks.

And I was critisized for being a dude who dishes out bad advice for stating the whole empty stomach thing... I`ve been using the glutamine peptides for the last 5 weeks or so. 5 grams intra workout with 10 grams of bcaa and 10 grams of leucine mixed in 2 scoops of gatorade, same thing post workout. I was hoping for something positive, giving this supp one last try, but can`t say I have anything to say. Plus the peptides taste god awful to boot. I doubt I`ll be using it again.
i love glutamine, always part of my supp schedule wether on cycle or not!

L-glutamine does work well for digestion issues as well as improved immune response. However the misinformation comes from the claims about its anabolic nature, improved recovery, muscle building properties etc. As the studies used to illustrate these results were all done using IV administration of L-glutamine thus allowing it to fully enter the bloodstream....which by the way it does not when ingested orally...the stomach acid basically destroys it before it has a chance to pass into the blood....thus these affects are completely negated.

Also...don't most protein supplements already contain a ton of glutamine? So technically, what would be the benefit if someone is already consuming a lot of protein powders?
^^ can i jab glutamine then if i mix it with bacteriostatic water? im gonna spot inject it into the muscles that i trained that day....

Sounds like a plan!
i once took about 100g of glutamine in a serving with water to see if it would help reduce my hangover when i was drunk. it didnt.

An ex g/f of mine had/has Crohn's disease and a Doc had recommended supplementing w/ L-Glutamine for improved intestinal health. I can't really say it did anything for her as she was already taking a ton of supps and prescription meds for her condition.
